2. Checkmate

After a long day at school, I went home alone. Millie was at cheer practice with Bill at football practice. He just thought he had to be on football team. But I think that it was just to get away from the fights that his parents were having.

All the screaming and yelling. We lived right by each other. I always saw them slamming the front door and fighting in the front yard. I kind of felt bad because Bill was always stuck in the middle of the fighting. 

I had gotten home to see that my mom was baking cookies for some reason. "Hey mom," I shouted towards the kitchen while I put my bag down in the living room. "Why are you making cookies? Did you get fired?" 

"Hey sweetie," she replied. "No I did not get fired. I am making cookies because your grandma is coming over to visit for a few days and I found one of her old recipes in the box in the closet with all the old stuff in it." 

"Let me guess, that is where she is going to come out of as well?" my sister said as she walked into the kitchen. 

"Ha ha. Very funny Olivia. But you know this isn't Narnia. And your Grandma is not that weird to come through a closet like that" mom said. "Even if it has old things in it or not." 

"Well I got a little homework to do, so I am going to get that done." I said to mom. "Let me know when those cookies are done they smell good."

"Alright I will call you down here in about 10 minutes I just put them in the oven." mom replied. As I was going up to my room I heard my mom ask Olivia to hand the chocolate chips. 

As I went upstairs I could hear mom and Olivia talking about what happened at school to today. I just went up to my room to see what I had for homework that I knew I was going to have to get done soon. 

I noticed that I had some emails that were in my inbox. A couple were just spams from online, a email from a state college, and an unknown. So I clicked to read it as I deleted the spams.

           Dear Conan,

I am not trying to get you into any trouble or anything, but you need to stay away from my girlfriend or someone is going to get hurt.

Millie is an amazing girl and everything and I know that she is your bestfriend. But she does not think of you as a date and her dad does not think of you as a great person for her to date, he only thinks of you as a friend of hers.

The night that I met him, before I went on the date with Millie, he asked if I had knew you. I said of course we knew each other for a long time but were not the best of friends. He said that I had to keep an eye on Millie while around you.

He said if you break her heart he will have people come for you and that he knows your biggest secret and what happened to your father. So whatever you do stay away from Millie and don't say anything to anyone about this letter.

After I read the note I had just figured that he was just sending it as prank and a warning to stay away from Millie because she is his girlfriend. If it weren't a prank the person would have used a real email other than being unknown like that. 

He had been trying for a while now to have me stay away from her and end our friendship. Even if that meant that he had to send lies around the school about me so she would stay away.

All I knew is that Millie would never leave me like that, even if that meant breaking up with Bill. They had only been dating for a little while and mine and her friendship had been longer than him even being nice to her.

I had just decided to play chess online with people that I could also talk to while we played. As I got into a game I heard Millie outside as Bill was dropping her off at her house. I did not realize that it had taken me so long to come home till I checked the time.

The game went by quickly and I hadn't tried to hard because I knew I was going to be going downstairs soon. As I lost I was checking the chat as people were talking and all I saw were many names that were buzzing through that were saying different things. 

I heard my email chime and as I went to check it I noticed that it was in a little chat. When I read who it was from it said Unknown, so I knew that the person, probably Bill, was still talking to me. when I went to see what it said all I saw was Checkmate♟. 

I then heard mom call me downstairs so I just turned off my computer and left my room not thinking about what the email said. I didn't worry about and went to go have some cookies.
