Eddie stared at the box in his hand, his blood boiling. Everything he'd been told for the past 16 years of his life was all lies. And as many times as his friends had tried to tell him, he never believed it. Until now.
Normally, Eddie would've had a peaceful confrontation. He loved his mom, as much of a pain she was, but in the moment as he reread the box in his hand over and over, all he could feel was pure rage. He threw the box to the ground and crushed it with his foot before storming into the family room (as much of a family you can consider a mother and son, anyways) and took place in front of the TV.
"What the hell, ma!?"
"Eddie-bear!" the large woman gasped. "What's with the language!?"
"Sugar pills? Are you serious?!"
Sonia'a face paled. She was silent for a moment. "What are you talking about, dearest?"
"You know what I'm talking about. This whole time- my whole life you've just been lying to me?! Telling me I'm sick when all you've been doing is giving me fake medicine and lying? You have caused so many problems for me-"
"Eddie-b-"
"No! I have been terrified of nothing for years, and school life was hell for me because of you! I'm lucky I've got who I've got! The losers- I'm a fucking loser!"
Sonia stared at her son in shock before an irate look crossed her face. "You are sick, Eddie-"
"No I'm not and I found the evidence to prove it!!"
"You will do as I say- I can't have anything happen to you-"
"You've already put me through hell! I can't believe you lied to me my whole life-"
"You live under my roof, Edward, my rules!! Got it!?"
Eddie stilled, his gaze fixated on his mother. "Then maybe I won't live here anymore."
Sonia narrowed her eyes. "You can't just move out. You aren't old enough."
"I'll go stay with Richie. At least he treats me like a human-"
"That boy is nothing but a bad influence!!"
"Like you have room to talk!! Fuck you!"
With that, Eddie stormed to his room. He grabbed a select few things before stomping out of the house, Sonia yelling things he ignored, hopping on his bike and racing out of the driveway. Within minutes, he was standing on Richie's doorstep, panting and sweating. On top of that, his eyes were stinging with tears, tears that were rolling down his cheeks as he knocked.
He half hoped it wasn't Richie, instead maybe Richie's mom who would let him in to cool off. But it wasn't, it really was Richie.
"Eddie?"
"Rich-"
"Woah woah, hey, come inside."
Eddie stumbled inside, generously slipping his shoes off even though he knew he was a mess and that Richie (nor his mother) would care. Richie led him up to his room anyways, shutting the door gently behind him.
"Eds..what's going on? You wanna talk or no?"
"In a minute-" *he murmured, his voice sounding vaguely ill because of his stuffy nose. "I need to process first.."
Richie respectfully stayed silent, gently rubbing Eddie's back. After awhile, Eddie took in a deep breath and spoke up.
"You guys were all right," he breathed. "I'm not sick and I never fucking was- my mom lied. They were sugar pills. Fake. My whole life I- ...I thought she really did just want to keep me safe but it was all a damn lie. All of it. She's just a selfish..a selfish bitch-"
Richie frowned. "I'm so sorry, Eddie."
"It's not your fault..I should've listened to you guys-"
"Eds, don't blame yourself. Your moms a bitch and everyone knows it, and now that you do, things won't be so hard."
"They will..I have nowhere to go and I'll be stuck with her."
Richie's expression got even softer than it had been. "Stay with me," he said quietly. "We've got the guest room and my mom won't mind if we just tell her."
Eddie felt his eyes water like before and his lip trembled. "Do you mean that for real?"
"Always, Eddie Spaghetti."
Eddie tried to be annoyed with the nickname but instead let out a relieved sigh. "Thank you- fuck..thank you."
"Don't thank me," Richie smiled.
"You're my best friend on the whole planet, Richie."
"And you're mine. I love you, Eds," Richie breathed.
Eddie looked at him. "In what way might that be?"
"Whatever way you want," he replied softly.
Eddie huffed a laugh and laid his head on Richie's chest. "I love you too."
A playful smile pulled at Richie's lips. "In what way might that be?" he mocked.
A tired laugh knocked its way out of Eddie's lungs.
"Just ask me to be your boyfriend already, you fuckin dweeb.."
"You got it, Eddie Spaghetti..be my boyfriend."
"Fine. Only because you asked so nicely."
