The History of the Trident Families of Cardinia:
The history of Cardinia will and shall always be interconnected with its three most prominent families, The Trident; the Cossack, the Konrad, and the Demetrieff.
The story all begun when a tribe called Doradi from an adjacent island settled in the northernmost part of Cardinia, then called as the Island of Ilisikon. Some records stated that the name of this tribe’s leader was Izrah. He was an intelligent and gentle leader. The tribe existed in peace with the natives of that part of the island; trade was prosperous between the two people. Slowly the tribe of Doradi merged with the natives called Koniis which were Teutonic, their language and culture fusing into one. After Izrah's death, his first son Tegatus was elected leader by the tribe. He continued the good governance of his well-loved father. Imposing the same rules and serving the people with the best of his abilities. After his death, his son Rumkin proclaimed himself as leader and started adapting the name Izrah as his family’s dynastic name. He claimed that his ascension to the leadership, without election from the tribe, was because it was his inheritance. He was the first leader to use the name Konrad for the island- a combination of the previous name of the island, Ilisikon and Doradi, their tribe’s name. He became obsessed with conquering the entire island to proclaim himself as Rumkin Izrah- King of the Island of Konrad. His fascination led him to drive his people hard. His punishments for those who break his rules made the people fear him and most ran away to the southern part of the country. The people who fled formed two groups. One group occupied the hill country of the then called Razin and became hunters while the other group established themselves in the plain areas beside the river Demetra, and became fishers and farmers.
On the other hand, Rumkin Izrah continually ruled the tribe of Doradi in the north, before being dethroned and slain by his own nephew Asturis. Asturis then acted as regent and promised the people that when his infant cousin, Rumkin’s son, Wulfric comes into age, he will relinquish the crown back to the Clan of Izrah. Nevertheless, it never happened, Wulfric detested growing under his older cousin’s authority and at an immature age of sixteen, headed a rebellion and was slain in battle. Asturis mourned the boy’s lost but nonetheless sat in power because of this tragic event. His only son Amil succeeded to the throne when he became too weak to rule. Amil was an impressive leader, a fierce warrior, an astute tactician, and a man that women loved to please. However, his father’s ascend to the throne, made some of those that are still loyal to Rumkin despise him. Many of them say that his blood is not noble enough, his mother being a native woman who has never been to the royal court. In order to appease this concern, Amil married Rumkin’s granddaughter Aia. In addition to this, he adopted the name Konrad as the appellation of his Royal House, spreading the illusion that his sovereignty is a divine rule and the gods sent him to uplift the country from its miserable state. The people accepted him then, for they thirst the management of a strong and able king, thus born King Amil Izrah Konrad, Sovereign King of the Island of Konrad.
Meanwhile, the settlers of Razin started hunting the hills. They formed one clan and became fierce and savage warriors. They lived off the animal games that were bountiful in the area. Their sons were molded to grow into skilled hunters, living in the ‘Way of The Arrows’, trained at a young age to have no fear, to be swift and sure, to forget limitations and become the best, thus, sprung the name Cossack, a word that means “free warrior”. One man stood to be their leader and he was Alain Cossack. He was a pure Konii (native of the land), who’s fierceness was equal to love for his territory and family and his kindness was only second to his uprightness. Under his rule, the Cossacks became a wealthy people. Their craft perfected and established with effective systems. They became the first objective of King Amil, he wanted to subdue them and make them accept his rule. However, the Cossacks refused and this resulted to a war, which saw the end of King Amil’s rule and in the whole ended the Konrad’s dynastic royalty. He made the grave mistake of invading the hills of Razin, which was- for the Cossacks- a fortress, impenetrable and maze-like because of its various and secret passages. Alain, in a fight for honor, slew Amil. As the old tales go “. . . with one swipe of his [Alain’s] mighty sword, King Amil’s head was neatly severed from his shoulders. Then he [Alain] picked up the crown from the severed head of the king and amidst the frantic and berserk shouts of his fellow Cossacks, not heeding the blood tainting the piece of gold, he [Alain] placed it on his own forehead and then and there proclaimed himself King of Konrad. . . ”.
