I look at him for a moment, completely shocked by the question.

"Wh-what?"

"I'm sorry if I was to straightforward, it's just at the orphanage, the lady in charge miss...Angela?"

"Alice"

"Right. Anyways, she said something about your parents and how she was scared how you would fare having only one parent."

"Well, I mean it doesn't make much of a difference. But I really don't like to talk about my parents."

He looked back at his script with a sad look on his face,"I'm sorry I asked."

I set my book down and sighed softly,"I should tell you anyways."

He set his script down and looked at me.

I looked away from him and began,"When I was 7, it happened one day, just an ordinary day. I went to school and my parents went to their work. They both worked in the same building but for two different companies. It was around lunchtime that the fire started. But I never heard about it till after school. I went home on the bus that day so I was there before them. I waited for them for about two hours till there was a knock at the door. A policeman and miss Alice showed up at the door. When they told me they had died in the fire I didn't believe them, I didn't want too. Miss Alice took me back to the orphanage that night. I never felt the same way. After their death I shut everyone out, my friends, miss Alice, my teachers, I just felt like if I ever got attached to someone again then I would lose them too. I just felt so alone for so long."

By this time I was in tears barely able to say anything. I wrapped my arms around my knees and sat there, both of us quiet for a long time.

Then dad cleared his throat. I looked up and saw a few tears had fallen from his eyes. He was looking down at his lap.

"I'm so sorry that you had to ever go through that. No child should have to go through something like that."

I looked at him. He gave me a sad look.

"But I promise Lauren, I will never leave you. I will never let you go through something like that again."

I sniffled and crawled over to him, wrapping my arms around him and rested my head on his chest. He wrapped his big arms around me and began to smooth my hair down.

"I-I love you, dad."

"I love you, Lauren."

He kissed the top of my head and I fell asleep there in his arms, feeling safe.

(Okay here's another chapter. I hope you guys like it. It's kinda crappy because I wrote this at 2am. But anyways, enjoy:3)
