The weather was getting warmer. You were soaking in the spring sun on the back deck. It was the first real alone time you have had since the accident. Flip was at your constant beck and call. And if he wasn't your family was. They had left yesterday after being here for two weeks. Don't get it wrong you loved your family but going from being a majority independent to then not being able to do a thing by yourself was mind-bending. All you wanted was your independence. You still had pain and between almost graduating in less than a month and trying to heal, it was an absolute shit show.
Not to mention, the nightmares your therapist warned you about, came in like a freight train. You felt like you couldn't get a single peaceful night's sleep. Before with your nightmares you had Flip and that made you okay but this was different. You couldn't close your eyes without seeing that explosion or even their bodies as......
Yeah, it is hard for you to deal with watching people die. Not just them dying because it wasn't the fact they were dead, that did not bother you. Truthfully you didn't care about their lives at all. It was just physically watching it with your eyes that scared you. You were so close you honestly believed what you saw was about to happen to your body. But then your eyes closed and well you woke up. They always talk about the survivor's trauma and how it affects you but you truly didn't realize how real it was until it happened to you.
The cup of tea warming your hands was the most welcoming feeling you have had today. You had tried napping on the couch but you woke up in a panic and decided you were going to keep yourself awake.
It was the first time Flip had left you for a full day. Every time work called he would only go for at most 2 hours but today he had to go back full time. It was because Ron and Flip had gotten rid of most of the files like the Chief wanted. You knew it was hard for Ron and so did Flip. That's why he secretly saved a file so that if Ron ever wanted to reopen the case he could. It was locked away in your safe and no one except the two of you knows Flip kept it.
With that being done for the time being both Ron and Flip got put on a new case. Some drug lord who had moved into the area.
It was around 6 o'clock now and the sun was barely just setting. The warmth from the sunset was hitting your face just right. You had placed your cup of tea down beside you. Your legs were curled up to your chest and your arms were wrapped around tightly. You closed your eyes and basked in the sun enjoying its warmth.
As you relaxed you imagined your future and what it would look like. You knew you wanted to go to law school. That was a no-brainer but then you thought about kids and marriage. Before Flip you never thought in a million years you wanted children. But now you could picture 3 little ones running around with Olympus while you sat in this same seat and Flip grilled burgers.
It was so perfect you couldn't help but smile at the image. It was at that moment you heard a noise directly behind you. You jumped a little as you felt a hand wrap around your throat but once you realized the gentle touch and whose hand it belonged to you relaxed instantly.
"What's my pretty lady smiling about?"
He sat down beside you patting Olympus on the head as we went down.
"Oh, nothing."
"We keeping secrets now darlin'"
You faked innocence, "What me? Never"
