Well Mike's grounded, not to much of a surprise there.

That night I had come home and mom had to give me 'mom' treatment, inspecting me whether I had been somehow contaminated.

Which... I can't really blame her. I just hope Mike isn't in too much trouble. Anyways, I was in my room getting ready for bed. I brushed through my short hair with my claws as I look in a wall mirror.  All of my family has two cool shiny brown horns, why is my left horn all stubby and the other one isn't?

Genetics man.

I looked in the mirror, at myself.  My brows furrowed and I lifted my hands in a scare gesture. I let out a paused squeak before continuing to make a sound.

I stopped and nibbled my nails nervously, I'm being to mean to myself. Without hesitation I let out a loud shriek.  Loud enough for the house to hear.  I cover my mouth and gulp.

Jeez, if I wanna be a scarer I gotta get a hold of myself.  I squeezed my ears.
After all, everyone's first impression of me is 'oh my gosh, she's so adorable!'  Nobody really thinks I'm all that capable.
I sighed, but flinch when I hear a knock on my door.

"Hey squirt?  Can I come in?"  I heard my dads voice.

I go to sit on my bed.  "Yeah."

He opens the door and peeks his head in.  "You getting ready for bed?"  I nodded, my hands holding my chin up as I slouched on the edge of my bed.

My dad frowned at first, it that quickly changed to a light smile.  "You know when I wrapped up work today Frank couldn't stop talking about your friend."  He said as he walked in.

"He got grounded, and besides that wasn't safe of him to do."  I said.

Dad kneeled down and rested him arms at the bed edge next to wear I was.  "Well, your right.  In any case I wished he didn't go into a kids door but.  I will be honest, that kid's got guts."

I chuckled.  "Well, he doesn't have the fear of going into a real scare, clearly.  I have a feeling he's gonna go do great things one day."

Dad put his hand on my shoulder.  "I bet you will too."  I shook my head.  "You don't get it dad, I want to be a scarer, I really do, and I can tell Mike does want to as well.  But, Mike has confidence in himself, he believes he's scary, others... probably don't but I think he kinda is, we're still young after all.  But, every time I hear what I can do, it just... rubs me the wrong way."

Dad glances down for a second before looking back up to me.  "Y/N look at me."

I looked.  "You know what I see?  A young Dragenhart, who's gifted, smart, and definitely worthy of being a scarer.  I see a monster, who's going to do great things for this world, I think you just gotta learn first."  He tells me.

He looks towards my back, at my wings.  "Just give those a few more years and they may just be ready to make you fly high in the sky squirt."  He smiled.

I smile back and hugged him.  "Love you dad."

"Love you too squirt."  He ruffled my head and I climbed into bed and pulled the covers over my head.  He kisses my forehead.  "Get a good night sleep."

Dad goes and turns off the lights, but before he leaves I ask.  "Hey dad?  Do you think I'll go to Monsters University one day?"  He turns around, and gives a dumbfounded jokey face.

"Hmm I dunno, maybe." He jokes before winking and closing the door.

I look up at the ceiling.  With a big stupid smile on my face.  My lifelong hero might have just changed my mind.  Perhaps going to college with Mike and becoming a scarer, will be better than I thought.
