D’Artagnan’s POV

We sneak in the building that Julien has shown us. There are only Buckingham and two of his men inside. Have all the others died on the ship? Buckingham looks at us, shocked.

“How is this possible? What are you doing here? Did you come here for revenge?”

“Actually, it’s the opposite. We came here to save you from someone else’s revenge and to restore peace. Do you still have that treaty? We’ll take you to King Louis, who will sign it. You can also talk to him about that airship of yours.” I inform him.

Buckingham is about to answer, when we all see some thick smoke that is spreading quickly. I know that smell, it causes me to cough immediately and the smoke also stings in my eyes.

“It’s fire! The hall’s burning, get out of here!”

One of Buckingham’s men shouts and we all hurry to run out. But when we reach the entrance door, we find it locked. I try to force it open, but fail.

“We’re trapped!” I tell the others.

“Damn!” Porthos curses.

Why can’t we be lucky, just one single time? I draw my sword and turn around.

“We’re gonna fight our way out.” I tell the others.

“Great. How?” Julien asks.

“Where is the fire? We’re just gonna go there.”

“Are you insane? We’re gonna die in the flames!” Buckingham exclaims.

“We won’t. It’s out only way out and we’ll have to try.”

With these words, I run into the direction of the flames or better, I run into the direction where the flames have been. They’re gone. I can hardly make out anything due to the smoke, that is still everywhere. This isn’t possible. I think someone’s there. Right in front of me. Or am I imagining things? I stop and stare ahead. Yes, there’s definitely something – or someone… with a sword. I manage to bring my own one up literally in the last second to block the blow. I stumble back, but quickly recover, ready to fight back.
Suddenly the room is flooded with light. I turn towards the light and see that one of Buckingham’s men has managed to break a whole in the wall. Buckingham and his men run out. I only take one short glimpse at the scene before turning back to my attacker – just in time to dodge his next blow. My heart stops as I can make out his face now.

“Jussac”

“You know, I can’t let you get out of here, because I’ve got two ladies out there who will do a rather unpleasant job for me. They’re gonna kill him for revenge and with you alive, they have no reason for it.”

“You won’t succeed!” I tell him.

With that we start to fight again. He has the great skills of someone who has been learning the art of fight all his life. I on the other hand have speed, courage and the fact that I’m fighting to save the love of my life. But he is enjoying perfect health while I am exhausted from the previous events. Still the fight is sort of equal. Most likely because I am willing to die for my cause and I have the feeling that he doesn’t think that his own life might really be endangered. I guess, he’s just keeping us from getting out until it’s too late.
I block a quick series of his hits, ignoring my complaining shoulder as I grab his right arm with my left hand, forcing the two blades towards him. His own blade scratches over his cheek, causing him to grimace. But before I can cause any more damage that would give me some kind of an advantage, he manages to break free. We stumble some steps away from each other.

This gives me the time to take a quick look around the room and just now, I actually realize that my fight wasn’t the only one going on. Jussac has brought some men who are currently fighting my fellow Musketeers and Julien. I don’t know for how long this fight has been going on, but I do know that we need to get out of here. I can’t let Constance become a killer, that’s not who she is.
I glance at the hole in the wall. It’s not far. But it’s right behind Jussac. I don’t have the time to fight him, so I quickly think of something else to do. There is another way. It’s foolish and risky and most likely won’t work, but what choice do I have?
I throw my sword, it hits Athos’ opponent, who falls to the ground unmoving. Then I sprint towards Jussac, now I’m completely armless. I dodge the expected blow as I reach him and crash right into his chest, causing Jussac to fall to the ground. Unfortunately, he manages to leave a mid-deep cut in my leg while falling. But this isn’t gonna stop me. I go on and run through the hole in the wall. The scene I see outside is shocking…
