D’Artagnan’s POV

I look at him in disbelief. I need some seconds to realize what this actually means. I can be with Constance, forever. I can have a life with her! Well of course only if she still wants me. I mean, I must have really hurt her and I think I might have truly acted like some kind of a jerk…
A huge smile grows on my face. The first real smile ever since that drunken stupid guy at that party spoke to me. It’s a smile that comes from my heart and reaches my eyes.

“Thank you, Porthos! But how did you know how I fell? I mean, I never told anyone…”

“Kid, I could simply see it in your eyes!” Porthos laughs.

I also laugh at this and it just feels great. It feels great to have a tiny little bit of hope again. Maybe, one day I will really have my happy ending.
Athos turns from in front of me and smiles.

“You have no idea, how good it feels to hear your laugh again, kid!”

Maybe he is right, maybe one day, I will really be happy. But I know one thing for sure: A happy life includes Constance. Like absolutely. For eternity. And I know what I’m going to do. I am going to make the move. We will be together forever. I have a plan.

We finally reach Paris in the middle of the night, after a long and hard ride. I am just really relieved when I can at last fall into my bed. I am deep asleep before my head actually hits my pillow.

*next day at the ceremony*

I kneel in front of my King. My heart is pounding in my chest. This is the moment I have been waiting for. I can feel the ring in my pocket and I have a hard task in stopping myself from smiling like an idiot. I know that there is a huge crowd right behind me. Athos, Porthos and Aramis are in the front. Along with Constance…

Now King Louis raises his voice.

“Do you swear to protect you King with your life?”

“I swear to protect my King with my life.”

My voice sounds strong and confident and actually I’m pretty proud of that because my heart is racing.

“Do you swear to protect France with your life?”

“I swear to protect France with my life.”

“Do you swear to be loyal to your King?”

“I swear to be loyal to my King.”

“Now rise to your feet, D’Artagnan, as a Musketeer of the King!”

I rise to my feet and turn to the crowd, everyone is cheering. This is the moment I have been waiting for. I am a Musketeer of the King. I did it! I have to admit I feel proud that I am now actually one of the Musketeers. The men I have always looked up to. A man of honor. One of the men who are know all over the world for their courage, loyalty and strength. I am one of the men, my father was. I made him proud.
