It wasn't actually Christmas, no everyone would be busy then. It was December 15th. And although it might not be Christmas day, Ellie still took this party very seriously. That's why you were so scared when you entered her cafe and she was standing there, hands on her hips, waiting for you. "Where have you been?" She says in her tone of disappointment she usually saves for employees "I've been waiting for you for the last half hour!" You look at her guiltily "I got delayed" you say quietly, looking down at the red scarf around your neck, your cheeks flushing out of embarrassment for being told off "Delayed? By what?" She says, hands still on her hips "Someone ran into me and spilled my coffee on my dress" you confess, lifting the scarf off your neck "Maeve!" Ellie says in disapproval as she moves towards the counter to get a wet rag "This is why you wait and drink coffee with me" she says shaking her head walking back towards you, starting to pat the stain on your dress "Sorry" is all you can manage to get out.
When Ellie is finished there's really no difference, it's just a watered down brown mark now. "Ill just lend you one of my dresses" she says with an eyeroll "Ellie-" you start to say but she interrupts you "No" she shakes her head "You will have a nice dress for the party, no protesting" and so you close your mouth and head over to your usual seat on the bar stool. Ellie going behind the counter to make you a new coffee. "So," she says as she sets down the mug in front of you, leaning across the counter, "Were they at least hot?" You look at her in surprise, spitting out the coffee you had just taken a sip of, "What?" She looks at you, a smirk on her face as she moves towards the sink where clean mugs are waiting to be put away "The person who spilt coffee on you," she says "They gave you that scarf," she says motioning towards the scarf which is now draped over the chair next to you, "And it's a woman's scarf, so were they cute?" The smirk is still on her face as customers come into the shop around you, starting to form a line by the register "I guess" you say, a blush creeping up your neck "Oh my gosh she was!" Ellie says as she goes over to the register, motioning for you to continue as she starts to take people's orders. "She was really pretty actually" you say, staring off into space, "She had this beautiful dark brown hair, and eyes that remind you of warm hot chocolate," Ellie nods and smiles from the front as she writes a name on a to-go cup, "And her outfit, she was wearing one of those sweaters I've always wanted" you say, looking down and allowing the blush to fully form over your face as you sip the coffee in your mug, "Sounds like you have a crush" Ellie says with a wink as she moves over to you where the coffee maker is "What?" You say looking at her, "I don't even know their name!" You say flustered slightly "Okay but you just compared their eyes to hot chocolate, Maeve" you shake your head and take another sip of coffee "Shut up" you say playfully "Im coming back there to help you" and you get up and move around the counter, grabbing one of the green aprons and tying it around your waist, moving to the register where you take orders for the customers in line.
Its now around noon, when the coffee shop closes on Sunday, and you're completely worn out from helping Ellie all day. There are other employees that come in, but for the first hour it's just you and Ellie, and it's exhausting. The last girl is leaving when you turn around and heave a sigh directed at Ellie. "Ready to leave?" She asks with a smile "Definitely" you respond, laughing. And you both untie your aprons and hang them back on the hooks. You head back to your chair and grab your coat and gloves, and after a moment consideration, slip the scarf on too.
The two of you go out to the packed streets, Ellie locks the door behind you two, making sure the sign is flipped to closed, and you walk over to her parked car. She didn't drive anything fancy, but Ellie came from money, and her divorced parents constantly bought her unnecessary stuff trying to win her over. She drove a Honda Accord, in a deep blue color, with grey leather seats and a fancy Bluetooth radio. Upon entering the car you could tell she had turned it on from inside the shop to heat it up. She also switches on both of your heated seats after starting the car.
Dylan and Ellie lived together in an apartment about 5 miles away, but theirs looked nothing like yours. It was nicely furnished, with an electric fireplace, nice sectional couch, a flat screen (from Ellie's mom) hung on the wall, and a beautiful kitchen. She had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, you used to live here with her, but after Dylan moved in you insisted that they needed privacy, and she turned the second bedroom into an office for Dylan, who was going to school to become a lawyer for his dad's firm.
When you look around the place you can tell Ellie already started preparing for the party tonight. Around the walls there were snowflake decorations and tinsel, there was a huge perfectly decorated Christmas tree, the TV was on and playing Christmas hits, and when you turned to the kitchen there were canned goods stacked on the counter, all the ingredients for some good party food. You take off your coat and hang it on the rack next to the door "Okay, let's get you out of that spoiled dress" is the first thing Ellie says when you enter the apartment, leading you towards her room.
When you enter it's mostly how you remember it, and just as grand as the rest of the apartment. There's a king sized bed with grey sheets and light blue accents, a deep wood frame and matching end tables. Ellie goes into her walk in closet that leads to the bathroom and starts to look through the many dresses she has hung up on hangers. She apparently finds one she likes, and pulls it out to show you. It's a stunning off the shoulder green cocktail dress "I can't wear that!" You say in protest as she holds it out to you "Oh yes you can" she says smiling, pushing it towards you. You reluctantly grab the dress with a frown on your face. "You will look so hot" she says as you walk into her bathroom.
You take off your spoiled sweater dress and your tights and pull on the dress. When you look in the mirror your surprised to see that you actually like this dress on you... It compliments your curves and the green brings out your hair. You smile slightly and take off your boots and socks too, deciding that if Ellie gives you the dress, she better give you matching heels too. When you exit the bathroom Ellie is waiting there, and she's changed too, wearing a tight blue dress with a tiny thigh split "Oh my gosh" she says covering her mouth "You look stunning!" And she moves towards you, grabbing your hands and looking at the dress on you "Every man will fall for you tonight" you roll your eyes and look at Ellie "You look great too" you say, trying to change the subject from you, she lets go of your hands and flips her auburn hair "I know" and smiles widely.
The two of you laugh at this for a moment before you ask her if she has heels you can borrow. She gives you a sly smile and walks towards her shoe rack, pulling out black heels. You roll your eyes at her and grab the shoes "Heels aye?" She says raising her eyebrows but you push her slightly and smile a little as you pull them on "My boots wouldn't go with this dress, that's all" Ellie says a "Mhmmm" making you think she doesn't believe a word you say. "Let's get to cooking" you say rolling your eyes, and the two of you head back into the main apartment where you start preparing for the party.
