It was a lot to take in.

Hiccup stared at the stars. He felt much safer than he had the night before, but his mind would give him no peace.

Somewhere out there, between where he lay and Alba was everything he held dear in this world.

That dastardly clever Outcast, cheating people and death at every angle. With Romans on his left and Piranharrow on his right, what had a chance of getting between him and his target?

What was his target?

That's what worried Hiccup the most. He could see opportunities that Alvin had left in the dust. Opportunities to escape, to rule, to take vengeance, and judging by the way the little weasel worked he hadn't missed these by accident. What was he holding back for? What did he actually want? And... has he already gotten it by now??

Thoughts tormenting him, he stood and quietly picked his way around the sleeping Vikings and dragons.

Trooper opened an eye.

Scree?

The Berkian Chief walked along the ledge, listening to waves as they fell upon the rocks below. From time to time he'd here a splash that told him Ebony was out catching fish. Or attempting to, anyway.

He liked the wind that nipped at his face. The salt in the air. Yes, even the chill. It reminded him of someone that would tease him relentlessly every time he complained about it.

On a grassy patch facing the low-set moon he stumbled upon a giant, smoking a long-stemmed pipe.

"Liam," He said, "I didn't know you were still awake."

"I'm not keen on company- especially when it speaks Latin."

"Oh. I'm sorry. If I thought we had a chance of finding the Romans on our own I would have left him in our dust."

He sat down beside the Celt.

Scree, the little terror crawled into his lap. He pet it.

"I'm surprised you can't sleep." Liam puffed.

"Can't stop thinking." He answered, not looking up.

The older man waited for him to elaborate.

Hiccup tried to sort his feelings into thoughts, and then those into words.

"Liam,"

"Hmm hmm."

"Did I do the right thing?"

Those grey blue eyes turned to the young Chief. "You've done a lot of things, both right and wrong."

That was helpful.

"I'm talking about the Piranharrow. And Alvin. And, my tribe." He could not meet the older man's gaze.
