After a day of more riding, we finally arrived at the village I told about. The village only was a few tents and a little field on which the soldiers grew some plants. They lived very ascetic and I liked it. “That’s it.” I said when we reached it. We stopped our horses and dismounted because some of the men told us to.
“My lords, I am Miriel and this is Eomer, my half-brother. You might have heard about us, we are the nephews of King Theoden. But unfortunately we have been banished, like you.” I explained. One of them nodded. “We do have heard about you. I’m sorry for you. But you shall be welcome in our company. My name is Balian and I’m the leader of these men. But you should do it, you are of royal descent.” Balian bowed. “Thank you.” I smiled.
The men showed us their village and led us to a small tent. “This tent was for two of our fellows. But they died when orcs surprisingly attacked our base.” Balian said quietly. I laid my hand on his shoulder. “I’m so sorry for you. But every single one of you doesn’t deserve any peril at all. It actually hurts the most that we all are banished, even Eomer and I, the king’s nephews.” I said. Balian just nodded. “But all this is the fault of Saruman. If he wouldn’t have poisoned the mind of King Theoden, everything would be fine now.” he said. “It will be fine soon. Our enemy has arisen again, but it’s our duty to protect our country from all this evil. Our sister Eowyn still is in Edoras. We don’t want anything to happen to her.” Eomer sighed. “Anyway, since I am the leader of you now, I demand a meeting of everyone.” Balian nodded. “So shall it be. I’ll tell my fellows.”
The night came soon and the both of us had washed and cleaned our clothes. I braided my hair into a long tail which hung on my shoulder. I never thought that this should be my fate. But I will stay strong. For my sister. And my uncle. At this moment I really hoped I would see them again soon. Will we ever meet again? I didn’t know that.
“Miriel?” Eomer asked. “Yes?” I replied. “I really appreciate your support. But you shouldn’t have done that. Running away from the palace I mean. You would have been married next week.” I looked up to my brother who stood in front of the blanket I sat on. “And what if I didn’t want to get married? Have you ever met Hiron? He is an old guy. My plan was getting children, but never ever with this man. He is disgusting.” I hissed. “Of course I have met him. I wanted to know who the man is with whom my half-sister is getting married. And I agree, he wasn’t that nice to me. But doesn’t everyone deserve a chance?” he asked. “Hiron doesn’t.” I stood up and left our tent to have a walk.
I went to the campfire some men had lit and talked to them. I got to know some really nice guys, for example Alden and Kenley. Both had lived in Edoras before they went hunting in the woods and met a group of orcs. They killed all of the enemies and wanted to tell the King about them. But Grima banished them both.
“What about you? It doesn’t seem like you’re of human descent.” Alden said. Kenley kicked his foot. I laughed. “My mother was an elf. She met my father and they married and got me. When I was 2 years old, my nana was killed by Saruman himself. I don’t know what she has done and I think it isn’t my concern. My father grieved long for her, but then he met Theodwyn, the king’s sister. He immediately fell in love and he married again. They got Eomer and Eowyn and we lived happily together for many years. Until my father and my stepmother got stabbed by orcs. It was horrible, the whole city was attacked by them and a lot of people died in this night. And then I had to care for my half-siblings a very long time. But our uncle took us in his palace and a few years later we got banished. Except Eowyn.” I told them. “We’re so sorry, Miriel.” Kenley breathed. I looked up at him. “It’s fine.” I smiled. “I will leave you for tonight. Has Balian told you about the meeting tomorrow?” They nodded. “Yeah he did. See you.” Alden smiled. Then I left the campfire to go to our tent.
