My first real day at Oscorp Industries. I had won an internship over the summer, but now school was about to start and they offered me a real job. The job was research officer, which was exiting. I had jobs before, but not anything I was actually interested in. My father made me work at a coffee shop, but the owners sold it to a popular chain. After that I worked at a high profile restaurant, but was only allowed to wash dishes.

Dad was eager for me to work, and both my parents were always supportive of what I wanted to do. Although they both made sure I knew I had to make my way in the world on my own. My mother was a police officer, but my father a successful lawyer. The two of them actually met during a lawsuit.

"You already know the rules..." Max said. He had been my boss during my internship over the summer, but he worked now only to 'show me around', even though I knew the building like the back of my hand. "Yeah, yeah... don't disturb anyone looking focused and don't drink or eat anything suspicious," I said jokingly before he handed me my badge.

"Great, I think you're ready now," he said and I bowed, which made him laugh softly. "Good job Cove, not the annoying intern any longer."

"That's a little rough coming from you. Since I got here you've been up my ass about this and that."

"Well you're not doing anything properly, so what would you expect me to do?" he said, but I spotted the weak smile in the corner of his mouth. Max liked me, I knew it. But if there was a bigger loser on this earth, I would be surprised. I liked him, he was a very good friend, but I could never date him.

The rest of the day went smoothly, I even stayed back to finish off before heading home. Brooklyn was not too far away from Oscorp, but too far to walk. Since it was late, my mom picked me up in her cop car.

There were leftovers on the counter, but I did not feel like eating fish. I grabbed a frozen pizza and turned the oven on. "If you continue eating like that you're gonna roll out of high school," my brother, Jason, said. He was two years older than me and already out of high school. He was supposed to be off to college, but he wanted to take a year off, which my parents thought was a great idea. They never held him to any expectations, since his brain was the size of a pea. The only reason he got into any college at all was because of his stupid football scholarship. Me on the other hand, they expected me to do great in everything. So I usually did.

"Jason let your sister eat whatever she wants to, at least she is good for something," my father joked from the couch. I stuck my tongue out mockingly to my brother before turning to my sister. She was sitting by the table doing her homework. Alyssa was only seven years old, but already smarter than Jason.

The next morning was the first day of school. I had nearly no friends at Midtown Science High School, but I did have one. His name was Tristan, and he wasn't the nicest person I had ever met. He usually hung out with Flash, or Eugene, and was totally only friends with me so I wouldn't let the whole world know that I helped him in every single class he had. After almost a year of tutoring him, the friendship actually became a cute one. He didn't hang out with me every day, but tried to make time for me in his busy popular boy schedule.

That very morning he was standing behind Flash, the school bully, with another one of their friends. Once I saw the basketball in his hand, I knew what Flash was going to do. His eyes were on the target and bam! The confused boy turned to face the friends. The three laughed, and Flash said he was sorry in a sarcastic way. "Morning Flash," the boy said and turned back to the picture he had hung up on the wall. I had seen the boy around before, but didn't really know his name. I knew that we hadn't had any classes together before.

"Morning Parker," Flash said as they passed him. "Oh it's going to be a wonderful year," Tristan added, and the laughed as they walked out of sight. I debated on whether I should introduce myself and apologize on behalf of Tristan, but before I knew it, he was gone.
