"When is Doctor Barnes coming back?"

Bucky spins to see some other interns standing behind him, looking up with expectant eyes. He knew that people were starting to wonder - Ophelia hadn't been back at work for nearly now. She got another idea in her head that she would better her chances of getting pregnant if she slowed down. April had tried to coax her back in, calling her whenever a trauma was rushed in - but each time, she turned it down.

"Soon", he mutters, turning back around to text Peter. Telling him to take Groot out, for he was planning an anniversary dinner.

7 years since they started dating. God, did time fly by.

Ophelia was slowly on the mend, and it was hard for both of them. Ophelia refusing to get out of bed or look Bucky in the eyes for weeks. But then she stopped binge-watching TV shows and movies and started doing things. Cooking. Cleaning. Hell, she took up knitting. She needed anything to keep her mind from wondering.

And it killed Bucky that he couldn't be with her, comfort her at her lowest point. Instead texting her constantly to make sure she ate and washed. It didn't feel right.

He had no idea how he would even get this anniversary dinner running, for he was at work and Ophelia was at home, she gave him a little glimmer of hope about three weeks ago. He came in late, to find his wife swaying to the radio. Some song he couldn't remember the name to. But he knew it was one of her favourites. Once she saw him leaning against the door, she glided over to him, and softly asked "Can we have sex? Just normal, basic sex." Although he was confused at how she asked, he guided her upstairs, slowly took off her clothes before they both got under the sheets, and kissed her deeply as he straddled her. Afterwards, he turned to say something, but was faced with her sleeping body instead. He smiled sadly as he brushed the hair out of Ophelia's face, his heart aching for her.

Bucky was thinking about this as he waited for Arizona Robbins, unaware that she was by his side, tapping her foot. "Earth to Barnes?"

He jumps up in shock, "Sorry Doctor Robbins. There was something on my mind." He'd been on the pediatric service for a month now, and he enjoyed it. Especially the NICU. How Arizona trusted even him to keep an eye on such delicate things. Karev was a different story, but Bucky liked talking to these innocent babies about his problems, his history. They had no idea what he was saying, but it was nice to just think that they were powering through everything that went wrong. Even his stupid talks.

"Ophelia?", she asks, patting his arm in reassurance as they turn to start rounds. Bucky had befriended Arizona now, for she caught him talking softly to the tiny humans. It was nice to sometimes have an adult to talk too, even if she didn't give advice like the babies. He really liked that no one gave him advice, letting him have his distance if needed.

"I've noticed that babies in the NICU smile when I say Ophelia. Especially little Nick."

"You talk more to them than their parents. You're gonna present this case now, got a little surgery for you", she smiles, leading the way into the patient room.

"Philly? Philly? Where are you?", Bucky calls as he shoves off his jacket. It was approaching the end of August, but he liked to have an extra layer just in case. He learnt the hard way that the Seattle weather reporters were usually very wrong.

"Kitchen! But don't come in!", she replies.

"But I want to tell you about my day!"

"I'm listening!", and Bucky sighs as he stands in the foyer, telling her that he got to cut out a cyst in a 8-year-old's stomach. He wasn't able to close or do anything else, but he got to remove something. All by himself.
