Chapter 6- Facility

Tonight was the big Expo, I leave my bag in the car and walk around to get the door for Pepper. I didn't mind accompanying her. "I'll keep the car down here, all right?" Happy nods.

"Thank you Happy." Pepper smiles.

We both walk in and sit down in the crowd, looking up as Justin walks onto the stage. "Yeah. That's what I'm talking about." He laughs as everyone cheers. "Thanks for coming. Ladies and gentlemen, for far too long, this country has had to place its brave men and women in harm's way, but then the Iron Man arrived, and we thought the days of losing lives were behind us. Sadly, that technology was kept out of reach. That's not fair. That's not right. And it's just too bad."

"Oh, Lord." Pepper rolls her eyes.

"Regardless, it was an impressive innovation, one that grabbed the headlines the world over. Well, today, my friends, the press is faced with quite a difficult problem. They are about to run out of ink. Ladies and gentlemen, today I present to you the new face of the United States military. The Hammer drone." Drones rise out of the stage as he calls the names. "Army! Navy! Air Force! Marines! Yeah! Yeah! Woo! That's a hell of a lot better than some cheerleaders, let me tell you. But as revolutionary as this technology is, there will always be a need for man to be present in the theatre of war Ladies and gentlemen, today I am proud to present to you the very first prototype in the Variable Threat Response Battle Suit and its pilot, Air Force Lieutenant Colonel James Rhodes."

Pepper looks at me in shock, "What?"

"For America and its allies, Hammer Industries is reporting for..."
We all look up as Tony flies in and lands on stage, waving at the crowed and talking to Rhodey and Justin.

After a few minutes the drones and Rhodey point their weapons at Tony, he flies up, causing the drones to fire. We all duck as glass falls. I grab Pepper as everyone runs and screams.

We follow Justin back stage to see him talking to another man.
"He's locked us out of the mainframe."

"Who's locked you out of the mainframe?" Pepper asks.

"Please, please, go away. Go away. I've got this handled." Justin points angrily."

"Have you now?"

"Yes, I do. In fact, if your guy hadn't showed up, this wouldn't be happening. So, please, now go away. Thank you" he turns to the other man and lowers his voice. "Listen, we got to get these bitches out of here."

I quickly grab him and pull his arm behind him, slamming him on the desk. "You tell me who's behind this. Who's behind this?" I growl.

"Ivan. Ivan Vanko."

"Where is he?" I ask.

"At my facility."

I let go of him and rush through the empty expo and outside. "Nobody's answering the phone. What's going on?" Happy asks.

"Get in the car. Take me to Hammer Industries." I point.

"I'm not taking you anywhere."

I quickly turn to look at him, "Fine. You want me to drive?"

"No, I'm driving. Get in the car."

I sit in the backseat and open my bag as he speeds off, I take out my suit and pull my hair down "When we arrive, I need you to watch the perimeter." I say as I unzip my dress. "I'm gonna enter the facility and take down the target." Suddenly the car swerves and other cars honk at us. "Watch the road." I nod.

"I got it. I got it."

We arrive at Justin's facility once I was done changing into my suit. I quickly get out with Happy following. "Stay in the car."

"I'm not staying in the car."

I rush up to the door and turn to Happy, "I said, stay in the car."

"What are you wearing? Look, I'm not letting you go in there alone."

"You want to help? Keep the car running." I point as I get the door open.

He quickly runs past me, "Okay."

A security guard runs up, "Hey, hey, hey. You can't come in here."

Happy punches him as I walk past to another guard. "Hold on. Hey!" Another one yells as I walk up to him. I slide down and throw two disks that electrocute him. I quickly spin around and leap over a cart, kicking a man as he walks into the hall.

I spin again and kick the next guard, sliding down the hall and tilting my head as another man runs at me. I jump onto the man I just kicked down and leap up on the next one's shoulders, swinging back and slamming him on the ground.

I turn the corner and throw two more disks that make two men jump back. I swing out and kick the one the lefts face and then slam the others head against the wall. I yank out a small wire from my wrist and wrap it around the next man's neck, I yank him down to the ground and punch another guard.

I grab a man's pepper spray and throat punch one more guard, knocking him out and holding up the spray, a man screams as I spray him.

I kick open a door with both of my pistols out to see two guards were killed. I look back at Happy, "He's gone."

I put my guns on the table and sit down as I start to type. "What are you doing?"

"I'm rebooting Rhodey's suit." I nod, continuing to hack. I finally smile as it works. "Reboot complete." I press another button so Tony and I could see each other. "You got your best friend back." I smile at him.

"Thank you very much, Agent Romanoff."

"Well done on the new chest piece. I am reading significant higher output and your vitals all look promising." I nod.

"Yes, for the moment, I'm not dying. Thank you."

"What do you mean you're not dying? Did you just say you're dying?" Pepper suddenly appears.

"Is that you? No, I'm not. Not anymore."

I look at them both confused.

"What's going on?" Pepper asks.

"I was going to tell you. I didn't want to alarm you."

"You were gonna tell me? You really were dying?" She asks worriedly.

"You didn't let me."

Her voice raises. "Why didn't you tell me that?"

"I was gonna make you an omelette and tell you."

"Hey, hey. Save it for the honeymoon. You got incoming Tony. Looks like the fight's coming to you." I say loudly.

"Great. Pepper?"

"Are you okay now?" She asks.

"I am fine. Don't be mad. I will formally apologise..."

"I am mad!" She yells.

"When I'm not fending off a Hammeroid attack."

"Fine." She sighs.

"We could have been in Venice."

"Oh please." She scoffs, I click them off the screen and look back at Happy.

"So...are you gonna tell me why you are dressed like this?"

"No." I turn back to the screen to see each drone being destroyed. Once they were all destroyed I see another done flying in. "Heads up. You got one more drone incoming. This one looks different. The repulser signature is significantly higher." I say.

I stay at the facility until the last one was destroyed, I also wait until the authorities move in to clear this place out.

My last step was to make a report about Tony.
