Kion has been waiting inside the tree for quite a long time, ten hours, as a matter of fact, patiently waiting for Rani to return so they can go to the Pride Lands and identify how the new Lion Guard is coming along. The first few hours Kion just sat down eyes fixed on the entrance but then finding it tiring Kion figured he'll take a quick nap and that he did, falling asleep on the spot the king of the Tree Of Life snored his way to a cool early night.
A strong cold wind set upon the Tree Of Life, the white dense clouds rolled in and covered half the moon while the breeze rustled the leaves, some of the wind found its way inside the tree and hit Kion in the face, jolting up surprised and scared from his slumber Kion looked around to see the tree dark, the green algae glowing and reflecting off his pupils. Looking around Kion estimated to be around seven, angry with himself for oversleeping Kion made his way outside the tree to see the navy blue sky. "Where's Rani"? Kion asked himself looking left and right, "did she make it back yet?". Questions filled his mind, it was late, they should have been gone from midday, Kion sniffed the air for Rani's scent, nothing but Makini's, Kion had a better Idea and walked steadily towards Makini's tree, along the way Kion asked himself more questions, "she said she'll be home by morning today, where is she?", Kion thought, the wind picking up his long luscious red mane fur and playing with it, letting it flap around in the breeze. He shook the thoughts out and continued on his walk, arriving Kion looked up to the tree, the branches creaking when it bends to the left, Kion could hear Makini hum, she usually does this when she is painting something, either something from the elders or practicing, she says it helps her concentrate. Placing his front paws on the stump of the baobab tree Kion called out, "Hey Makini, do you have a second?".
"Oh hey Kion, sorry give me a second", Makini called out peeping over the side and disappearing again, seconds later she jumped out of the tree with her staff, "What can I do for you...Wait, aren't you and Rani meant to be at the Pride Lands today?", Makini asked realizing the date of the event,
"Yeah, we are. Were. But Rani isn't back yet, I assume you don't know if she is back yet?", Kion remarked,
"No, sorry, I haven't seen the queen since she left a few days ago", Makini sighed,
"Strange, she said she'll be back by today", Kion said puzzled,
"Maybe she's running late? Or plans to come back tomorrow?", Makini stated,
"I don't know, I know she wouldn't miss this, somethings not right?", Kion suggested,
"What do you want me to do?", Makini asked,
"Don't worry about it, maybe I'm being paranoid", Kion said questioning his choice of words,
"Understandable, but maybe if you do feel like something is not right you should do something, its better safe than sorry", Makini vocalized,
nodding his head Kion made his final decision. "You're right Makini, It is better to be safe than sorry, I'll get Anga and Ono to scout out and see if they can find her, or at least if she is still with Baylio tell her about our trip", Kion replied turning around and running back to the guard's lair.
"Good luck Kion", Makini yelled waving her paw and climbing back up her tree.
Arriving at the lair Kion noticed they're all asleep, finding it guilty to wake the two birds up for something that may be a hypothesizes Kion pushed it aside and creeped in the cave, similar to the guards lair in the Pride Lands but without a pool inside, the king tried not to wake the rest of his friends up, finally making it to the small lithophyte tree in the middle of the lair Kion stretched his body along with the stump, reaching the top where Ono and Anga peacefully slept.
"You guys awake?", Kion whispered, flicking their eyes open dazed at the sight of Kion they immediately forced themselves awake,
"Kion, what are you doing here? Is something up?", Ono whispered back,
"You can say something like that", Kion admitted,
"What's up?", Anga asked,
"Well it's Rani, she and I were meant to leave earlier today but she hasn't returned at all and I'm a little bit worried, do you guys mind if you go search around to see if you can spot her? Sorry to have to wake you up",
"Of course we will, she is the queen, we'll do anything to find her", Anga said standing up and stretching,
"Thank you so much, if you can't find her come back and we'll sort something out", Kion verbalized,
"No problem", Anga said taking off with Ono. Kion watched as they flapped their wings into the night sky.
