Severus Snape: The super spy

Hogwarts was silent. All the students had been sent home for the celebration of the downfall the Dark Lord. The classes would resume two weeks later.
In the headmaster's office, Dumbledore was pacing back and forth. 'How did everything go so downwards? How did all the powerful death eaters walk free?'
He turned towards his table. There, lied the note written by Severus. It read-

"There is something very sinister going on. The Dark Lord is not dead. He will return.
I don't know if my husband, Regulus is a death eater or not. He is not very taken
idea of torture and gore. But, I want to help the order. For Lily. I will come to Hogwarts."

Now, he was waiting for the dour man. He didn't know that Severus Snape was married to Regulus Black. He had thought he loved Lily. He had to get to know all relationships to manipulate further alliances and shift of power from the dark.

The wards told him that Severus had entered Hogwarts. He welcomed him into his office.

"Ah Severus, my boy. How good to see you. Lemon drop?"

Severus just shook his head. Dumbledore smiled in his grandfatherly way and said- "A pity. They are really good. Now tell me what you had wanted to speak to me about."

"The Dark Lord was very strong. For him to die because of a baby is very unlikely. Also none of the elite have been captured and I know would not be even in the future. It is very astonishing. The marks have vanished, but it seems there were a few safeguards for this situation. Also where is Lilith Potter?" Severus asked.

"Ah my boy, you do not need to be concerned about Lilith. She is safe with her loving family."

"You do not understand Albus. Regulus and Frank Longbottom will be out for blood. And even I will support them. She has our blood."

Dumbledore did not understand. "Could please explain a bit more."

"Just after Lilith and Cassiopeia, Regulus and my daughter, were born, Sirius convinced Lily and Regulus to consider themselves and their spouses as family. He said that he might not have children, so he wanted the two girls, whom he considered his own daughters, to be as close as sisters. Sirius had already blood adopted both the girls. I only saw the ceremony of Cassiopeia. Then Regulus and I blood adopted Lilith and the Potters blood adopted Cassiopeia. The Longbottoms were present for all ceremonies. That is why he wanted Lilith to go to the Blacks. Albus, where is she?"

Dumbledore was shocked.
He had not expected such things to happen. 'If the Blacks or the Longbottoms were to have the Potter heiress's custody, how would he get his puppet? No. He had to do something. And he also realized that Lilith was not the only Potter heiress now. The Black girl was also the secondary heiress of the Potters. Dammit. He will have to make sure that the Black heiress is also under his thumb and marries in a light family. But how? Severus could be controlled, not Regulus. And he was the one with authority here. Well, he would think of something.'

"Severus. Can you tell me other children in the dark families. We will have to save all of them."

Severus smirked internally. 'The old coot thinks that he is being subtle. The fool.'

"Draco Malfoy, son of Lucius and Narcissa. Gemini, daughter of Rabastan, Barty Jr. and Marlene Mckinnon. She is being raised by Rodolphus and Bellatrix. Theo Nott, Pansy Parkinson, Blaize Zabini, Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle are some others. Daphne and Astoria Greengrass, but they are neutral."

"Barty Jr. married Rabastan and Marlene?" Dumbledore asked in a shock.

"No Albus. As you know Marlene lusted after Sirius Black. Now, people knew that Sirius hated the Lestranges. So to spite them she decided that she will pretend to be the younger Lestrange. It was during times that Barty and Rabastan had come to know to that they were going to have a baby. So when she came forward, they asked her to be the bearer. She agreed. And because they thought that they would not be able to care for her, so Rodolphus and Bellatrix agreed to do so. Marlene thought her bearing the legal child of Bellatrix would spite Sirius, she went with it but died during childbirth. Gemini is already the apple of the eye of her birth and adopted fathers and grandfather. She is also the Crouch, Lestrange and Mckinnon heiress."

Dumbledore was reeling with the amount of power in the dark. He did not know what to do. Suddenly an idea came to his mind.

"Severus. Why don't you join Hogwarts and teach potions here? Your husband, daughter and you can stay here."

'The more they stay in my reach, the more I can manipulate the Black heiress.'

"Albus. While I would like to thank you for your offer, I don't think Regulus likes you at the moment. You are keeping away his blood adopted daughter away from him. And Blacks can be very territorial. I don't think that right now it is a good idea. Moreover, Lucius, Rodolphus and Bellatrix still don't trust me completely. Me joining Hogwarts would feel like treachery. I think that I will join once Lilith Potter comes to Hogwarts. She will need the protection."

Dumbledore did not like it but could not fault the logic. But he needed to bind Severus to him somehow.

"Severus, while I can see the light in your eyes, sometimes the dark is too powerful and can lure you it's way. I would suggest a way to bind yourself firmly to light."
Severus appeared to be in thought and then said- "What about an unbreakable to protect Lilith Potter?"
Dumbledore was ecstatic. "Ofcourse my boy. If that is what you wish."

They both stood up. Dumbledore floo called Moody to bind the vow. Moody growled on seeing Severus in the office and tried to lunge at him. Dumbledore reined his paranoid friend and asked him to stand as binder.

Moody took out his wand and pointed towards the wizards' hands.

'Do you, Severus Snape, vow to protect Lilith Potter with your best of abilities." Dumbledore said.

"Yes."

"Do you, Albus Dumbledore, vow to never reveal the best of me to others.

Dumbledore looked shocked at this but agreed.

Thus the vow was completed.

"Albus, I shall inform you beforehand, should I wish to take the position earlier. Maybe in three to four years. But I will have to pretend to be biased towards the Slytherins. After all many of them come from dark families. Also, I shall meet you every month atleast to tell you everything of importance. I shall take your leave now."

With that, Severus turned to leave, his cloak billowing after him.

As soon as the door closed, Moody said- "I don't trust him."

"Alastair, he is quite hurt that his lord did not leave his love as he had promised. He has made a vow. He will have to help us. And after the final war is over, we will not have to save him because of the vow. It's a win-win situation." Dumbledore said stroking his beard.

Severus walked down the Hogwarts grounds, smirking to himself.

'You old meddlesome coot. You will come to an end. It is because of you that I have lost my Lily. I will avenge her. Her every drop of blood with yours. I vow it to myself.'
With that he left the Hogwarts grounds. After walking some distance, he apparated to the Peverall castle.

He saw Cassiopeia on her throne, twirling the Dark Lord's wand. She lifted her head as soon as she heard his boots.
"It's done." He said with a smirk.

She returned the smirk with the same, if not more maliciousness.
