Hey guys, here with an update. I just want to say that this chapter get sad so if your faint hearted you might want to turn back. Nothing really happens but some things are uncovered, so just a fair warning. Enjoy.

The outskirts are a very bad place in Claremont. All the criminals, druggies, gang member, basically anyone who lived on minimum wage in the county lived there. I would expect someone like Jared or Gavin to live there. But not Ivory. Despite the whole 'depression' thing she looked well put together. Nice clothes, good grades, maybe a little shy but still. It took me by complete surprise.

The ride to 2780 Oakland Drive was a quiet and tense one. Neither of us even tried to stir up a conversation. When I dropped her off I made sure to stay and watch until she got inside the house safely. Even if it wasn't that much safer than outside. The house was torn, sidings of the exterior peeling off in random places. The shingles looked worn and rain damaged. A window near the door was cracked and near breaking as well as slightly ajar. The grass looked as if it hadn't been mowed in months. The surrounding houses weren't much better. I felt a strange urge in my chest to do something. I thought about calling out and seeing if maybe she would want to spend the night at my place but dismissed it seeing as that would probably be weird. Instead I assured myself she would be fine and drove away.

'She's lived there her whole life, I'm sure tonight won't be any different.' I thought.

God was I wrong.

The next day of school, in the time of my free period class, I found myself shoved against a row of lockers. Somehow out of nowhere, Gavin had attacked me and pinned me there. His hand gripped the fabric of my shirt near my shoulders, holding overpowering strength. He seemed to tower over my like a huge beacon of evil. Until now I had never noticed how small and weak I was in comparison to him. I didn't really enjoy figuring that out.

"Tell me where you took Ivory last night, geek." Gavin demanded, making point by putting more force into his grip. I hissed in pain as the latch and lock of one of the lockers dug into me back. I squirmed to move away from it but Gavin's hold was too strong.

"Calm down, I just took her to the school camp fire. Why does it matter?" I asked. The fire in Gavin's eyes seemed to explode in that moment. Before I knew it, the bully had raise his fist, ready to go. I quickly raised my hands up in defense to possibly block the punch but I knew the chances of that we're slim. I guess this was how I was going to earn my first black eye.

"Your dead, nerd." I felt the air around me change. Something must have snapped inside me then cause, not even to uselessly try an avoid the swing, I couldn't move. I realized this must be what they call a deer in the headlights. Staring at pain face on, unable to defend. I watched his fist soar through the air, closer and closer. Till it stopped dead in the middle of the tracks.

I let out a huge breath of relief. Thank god someone had stopped and helped. I couldn't imagine the commotion my mom would make if I came home with a black eye.

Looking down, I saw that a small frail girl had actually caught Gavin's wrist a few inches from impact. The taller boy stared down at her bewildered while she only gazed back with a blank face.

"It's fine Gavin." Ivory whispered, letting go of her hold and dropping her arm to her side. The older boy stared at her starstruck for a few seconds. It didn't seem to register in his mind what happened. When he regained himself, Gavin let out a harsh 'che' sound.

"Whatever." he bit before stomping away. We hadn't gain much of a crowd as usual fights, only a few lucky student who happened to be wandering the halls at the time. Once they saw that a fight wasn't going to happen they quickly dissolved leaving only me and Ivory.
