After a few harsh words and weak punches, I managed to get Ivory down the hill. She had somewhat calmed down but still managed to glare at me in the worst way. I tried my best to ignore it. I wanted to get her to the nurse first and check out the wounds before they got infected. Blood was already starting to stain her shirt. If I didn't know better it almost looks as if she's been shot.
After the nurse I'd take her to the counselor and explain what happened. I'm sure Mrs. Norman could help her. She is the school guidance counselor after all.
"Where are you taking me?" Ivory asked in a demanding tone. I didn't reply at first. I didn't want to tell her I was taking her to the counselor. Back at the mountain she made it pretty clear she didn't want any help. Telling her I'm taking her to get help might cause her to run. Or worse go back up to the cliff. But if I didn't tell her something she wouldn't come anyway.
I let out a sigh and decided just to tell her.
"I'm taking you to the nurse then Mrs. Norman. They'll help you with your problems." Just as I expected Ivory stopped dead in her tracks. When I looked back at her her eyes were panicky and hands clenched.
"No! I won't let you. I don't need help. I'm fine." She assured frantically. I let out a sigh and ran a hand through my hair. Why does she have to be so stubborn?
"Ivory I just witnessed you trying to jump off a cliff. You need help-" I reached for her hand but she jerked away.
"No! It's my decision what to do with my life and you can't stop me!" she screamed. I let out a sigh. Great, back to the yelling.
"Ivory calm down. Okay. Take a few breaths." I said soothingly. Ivory stared at me for a while, almost as if she was testing me before letting out a big breath. I felt some of the weight lift off my shoulders as she obeyed me. Maybe if I could get her to listen she wouldn't resist so much.
When I thought she was calm again I started to speak.
"Okay good. Your calm. Now I want you to understand, I'm trying to help you. Despite what you think I actually care about you so let me take you to the nurse for your cuts before they get infected." I explained as if I was talking to a kindergartner. She didn't like that.
"Don't talk to me like I'm a child. I'm 16. And I'm not going to the nurse no matter how calm you try to get me!" she said, her voice rising with each word. My annoyance level was started to rise. I couldn't understand why she wouldn't just listen to me and let me take her to the effing doctor for her cuts. It wasn't as if I was trying to take her to a psych ward.
Allowing my irritation to get the better of me, I shouted out the first thought in my mind.
"Well it's not like I can take you to my own home to help. You'll probably think I'm a pervert and run away. So if you don't want that to happen let me just take you to the stupid nurse!" Ivory's eyes were the size of saucers. I could see the confusion and complete awe in them as we stood there staring at eachothers. I felt bad for yelling, me never really being the yelling type, but I just wanted to get it through her head. And yelling was the only way I could do that.
We stood like that for awhile before Ivory finally looked down and let out a sigh.
"Fine you can take me to your house." My eyes widened in shock.
What! She wants me to take her to my house rather than the nurse? Is she crazy? I don't know anything about medical care. Plus if Taila and Ryland find out the rumors will spread like wild fire. Not that I care but Ivory might if people start thinking we're dating. No, she's in enough pain she doesn't need that. I need to convince her to let me take her to the nurse.
