David's POV

Bert's barking brings me out of my dreary dreams and a new day greets me. I get up from my bed heavily and open the door so my dog can get out, go downstairs and take him out into the backyard so he can run and go to the bathroom. He even has his routine. I leave him there and make myself a cup of tea and some scrambled eggs for breakfast. There are days when I miss being a kid and running to the kitchen to find one of mum's freshly baked cakes, but not all good things last forever.

My day goes on as normal, lots of scripts to correct as the producers push Matt and Matt pushes me, nothing new. Until the afternoon arrives and this time it's different because I'm swapping my tea time for a meeting with Simon Cowell, the man who would rather stick his head in a bathtub full of piranhas than watch an episode of Little Britain. I put on my impeccable suit and after leaving Bert in his bed, I get into my car and drive to the address Simon's assistant sent me, which is in the centre of London.

After ten minutes, I'm in his office and I'm surprised to find that we won't  be alone. Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon and her manager are in the office. Alesha smiles at me as soon as I sit down next to her.

"Now that we're all here, we can get started," Simon says in his signature firm voice.

The man looks incredible at 49 years of age, the Botox helps, but he looks full of life. He wears his typical white shirt and navy blue trousers, his hair perfectly combed and his glasses; perfect, that's the word that best describes him.

"What crazy singing project have you come up with now, Simon?" asks Amanda, who seems to be quite close to the man from the way she talks to him.

"Have either of you seen America's Got Talent?" he asks, settling into his expensive executive chair.

"I've seen some of it on the internet," Amanda replies.

"I saw a girl cover one of my songs once, it was unbelievably bad," Alesha says making an amused face as she remembers the girl.

"I've never seen it," I say suddenly.

I'm not going to lie to please Cowell. I'm always dedicated to my work and when I can watch TV, I watch my favourite comedy shows or a James Bond movie.

"AGT gives young talent the chance to go in front of a panel of judges to showcase their talent and progress through the competition, at the end there's a million dollar reward and a show in Las Vegas for the winner, it's not just a singing competition like The X Factor or The Voice," explains Simon as if he's talking about the project of a lifetime.

"You're not thinking of taking us to America, are you?", I question him drawing my own conclusions.

"No, David, the show is already perfect with the judges joining me in America," Simon boasts, "I want to bring the concept to the UK and I want you as judges," he clarifies.

"Could you explain the concept a bit more, Mr Cowell," Alesha's manager speaks for the first time.

Simon explains at length all the stages of the competition to which, the 4 of us disagree due to the timing. He talks about a period of several months and none of us can afford to give ourselves fully to those times. Amanda has her theatre shows, Alesha has a tour and I have filming for a new season of Little Britain.

"It's too much, Simon, we have projects unlike your beloved judges in America," I protest.

"Can we change the concept?" asks Amanda.

"What do you suggest?" asks Simon.

"Auditions are great but instead of so many unnecessary rounds we could do a week of semi finals and a final, all in the same week," she proposes.
