Willow's POV
"You ready, yet?! I need to drop Jasper off at school," Victoria yells up at the stairs.
Today is the first day of school for me and so far, my morning's been horrible. My "alarm clock", as I've heard it's called, decided to sleep longer and never rang. So, once Victoria came down the stairs to not see me, I had no chance. She dragged me out of bed and screamed to get ready.
"You have 20 minutes!" She screamed right at me and now I'm getting dressed at top speed, trying not to upset her anymore.
Fail for me. I've got my outfit on, a pair of jeans and flannel shirt we just got yesterday at the mall, and brushed my teeth as quickly as my hand could move. Finally, now I've got to force my Converse on and brush my hair before Victoria decides she wants to kill me for making her late.
"Coming, coming!" I yell down the stairs. I grab my brush and yank it through my hair, while using my other hand to put my shoes on. I do all of this while I try so hard not to trip over the toys on the stairs.
Fail once again. I finally finish yanking the brush through all of my hair and putting one of my shoes on, when a little boy, also known as Jasper, appears in front of me catching me off guard. I lean back, straightening my legs to stop quickly but end up tumbling on my own feet. My other converse and brush fly out of my hands, the brush landing on my head. The impact from the metal brush makes me fall backwards right on the stairs. I roll down the last few stairs and finally stop moving when I land on the hardwood floor at the bottom.
"Ow," I mutter and rub my head. Jasper giggles at me but when he realizes I'm not getting up he sits down beside me. He pats my head then gives me a cute six-year-old hug, lifting my spirits a bit from that fiasco.
"You otay, Willwo?" He says, leaning back from our hug to look at me.
I give him a slight smile and respond with a weak," yeah."
Sadly, I'm actually not. My back aches even more than I thought possible and I've known so much more hurt than many. Okay, maybe not, but I've felt a lot of pain for a seventeen year old girl. Uhg, why did I have to trip? I've never tripped before, my mother would have never had let me. It'd be shameful for her, with war destroying many people and us having to show people that life was still worth fighting and staying proper and prim for.
"Oh, are you okay?" I hear Victoria ask, sounding like she actually cares. And I know she does.
"I'm okay at least. I just need to get this shoe on."
I put my hand down and have my weight on it to get up. When I get up I slip my other Converse on and glance back at Victoria. She gives me a smile and starts leaving to the car. I follow her until I see the car, that's when I run and yank the door open.
I'm so ready for school. I know before I was freaking out but if everyone's as kind as Victoria then I'm sure I'll survive. Alton High School. Yay!
Calm down, Willow
I listen to my inner thought and stop jumping in my seat. I turn to see Victoria almost at the car, so I decide I might as well make this easiest for her. Quietly, I look at the window and stare outside. The beauty of the roses, wow, they're actually beautiful not ugly as I thought.
"Get buckle and we'll be off."
I fasten my belt and glance back outside to see the rest of the town I never bothered to really look at before. The car roars and we're off.
Victoria drops Jasper off and then me. When we get to my school, the confidence inside of me plummets and dies. I gulp as I look at the huge buildings and students. Everyone has a place.
