Chapter 8 : Dual Blades

Later that night Saphire snuck into Danaira's room in the middle of the night . Opening her door he could spot her sitting by the window staring at what would be another dusty book on Crystal magic . 

- Hey what are you reading ? - He asked quietly 

- Just a book on the history of Crystal magic , did you know it doesn't even come from this kingdom . It says that my type of magic was from an old civilization of Titans who lived across the ocean . 

- That sounds interesting , hey I was wondering if you wanted to go train with me 

- Like right now ? Its already dark out and we have training tomorrow 

- And how is that working out for us ? We only have 5 days left and tomorrow it'll be 4 . We're not ready for our test and we don't even know what the test itself is going to be , we have to be prepared for anything .

- I agree , so what's your plan ? - asked Danaira 

- I saw some swords tucked away in the back of the closet , I thought we could learn a thing or two 

-  What do you know about sword fighting ? 

- Nothing I guess , do you  know anything 

-  Conveniently enough I do , my father had me- 

- You were saying ? 

Danaira had a look in her eyes that Saphire had never seen before , she had never talked about her family .

- I was taught by a traveling knight that went by my village when I was young 

- You mentioned your father ? 

- That's not important , point is I can teach you what I know 

- Then lets not waist any more time 

Saphire and Danaira snuck out to the back alley behind the spa under the cold dark cover of night . They practiced every night until the day of the competition , Danaira would show Saphire all the proper stances and Saphire would fall on his butt every time . It became routine for them to sneak out every night for sword training , one of those nights Carter was taking out the garbage when she spotted them both practicing how to properly parry . Keeping up with training during the day and night wasn't easy , in fact it was almost torture for both of them but especially Saphire . Unlike Danaira , Saphire had never had any kind of training so this was all new to him , he didn't give up though . 

On there last day of training Carter and Julie sat down with both of there apprentices to congratulate them both on there progress . 

- You've both worked your asses off during your training and we're both so incredibly proud of you - said Julie 

- As a reward for giving it your all your last day can be spend however you wish

- We're going back to sleep - said Saphire and Danaira in unison 

And as they said they both took there exhausted body's back to bed and fell asleep almost instantly 

- Well I guess they really are exhausted aren't they - Julie said with a smile on her face as cheerful as ever 

- Hey love can we talk ? - asked Carter 

- What's on your mind ?

- For the past couple nights I've seen the kids  training with our spare sword equipment in the alley way .

- I knew they were  up to something , Danaira was coming to  her training with the most tired look in her eyes . I knew she wasn't getting enough sleep .
