LUKE AND I'S LIPS ARE centimeters away from each other as he takes my hand and teleports us away. We end up on the roof of the house, our lips colliding together as we sit under the sunset. Our lips move together in sync as I feel his hand wrap around my waist, bringing me closer. I raise my hand to his neck and let my fingers trace down his jawline. After a second we pull away with wide grins on both of our faces. His handsome smile brings my stomach butterflies making me subconsciously create blue butterflies to fly up around us. I make them disappear as rosy blush rises to my cheeks, feeling embarrassed.
He chuckles before pulling me into a hug and kissing the crown of my head. I return the hug, burying my head into the crook of his neck and breathing in the calming scent of his cologne.
My shy smile fades as I think about something, starting to feel very guilty.
I need to tell him about Caleb. Luke might hate me but if he doesn't know he might cease to exist. Then there's the possibility of Caleb doing just that to me but I know that I don't want to keep Luke in the blue no longer and it's getting to the point where we won't be able to do anything about it if I don't hurry.
We pull out of the hug and Luke sees my frown. "Hey, what's wrong?" His bright smile faded as well.
I open my mouth to speak but I can't think of anything to say. Shit, this is going to be harder to tell him than I thought. Luke seems so happy at this moment and I'm about to take it all away. I don't know if I can do this.
Luke takes my silence as discomfort and starts to panic. "Wait. Oh no. Is that not what you wanted? I completely got the wrong message. I so sor-"
"No! No. I wanted that. No, it's just..." I interrupt him, trying to reassure him of my feelings. I have to tell him. He deserves to know. "I have to tell you about something and I don't want you to hate me for it," I warn him.
He moves a strand of hair away from my face and looks into my eyes. "I promise, I won't hate you."
I look into his hazel eyes, soulfully as I nod a little before softly speaking. "Yes, you will." He furrows his brows in confusion. "I got you guys into some serious trouble."
"What do you mean?"
I take a deep breath as I try to figure out how I'm gonna break the news. "You know that stamp that Caleb gave you?" I ask. He nods in reply. "Those are what's causing those jolts we're getting."
Just as I was finishing my sentence, we both got one of those said 'jolts'. It was worse this time. Pain ran through my whole body as we both groan in agony.
"He-he's threatened by you. Threatened by me even. He wants us under his control," I tell him as my eyes start to water from both the jolt as well as this difficult conversation. "He doesn't want there to be any other ghosts that can 'do the impossible' without his help. That's how he got me in the first place. He wants you to join his band or else... we'll be erased from existence... completely," I continue trying to not make eye contact.
For a moment it's silent. And it's not comfortable silence. It gets to the point where it's unbearable and I meet his eyes. He looks at me as if he's trying to see whether I'm joking or not.
"You knew what these jolts were all along?" He asked, any sign of joy on his face has disappeared now.
"Yes," I sigh, my guilt feeling even stronger now and sinking down to a pit in my stomach.
He looks away from me as he thinks, clearly upset before replying. "I need to tell the guys."
I nod in reply and we both teleport to where they are, in the basketball court. It seems like they already know, seeing as Willie is there and they both look very confused and stressed out.
