When Y/N got back to her room she decided to read for a little while. She had about an hour before she was expected in the main living room. There, she would try on the weddig dress that had been made for her. The wedding dress was the only part that Y/N actually somewhat looked forwards to. She had always loved trying on beautiful clothes. When she was a little girl she had dreamed about the day she would try on her wedding dress.
Eight year old Y/N looked forwards too getting married and starting a family of her own. Seventeen year old Y/N knew better. When she was a little girl she thought all married couples lived happily ever after. She had thought that her future husband would be a brave knight in shining armor that would protect her from all the dangers in the world.
'If only that was true' Y/N thought with a sad smile on her lips.
Even though Y/N knew that her wedding wouldn't be like in the fairytales, she still looked forwards to trying on the dress.
While waiting, she sat down in one of her big armchairs facing the large windows. From the windows she could see a big part of the forest surrounding the manor. She saw a doe and her fawn nipping on the still green gras. Y/N suspected that it was the same doe that had eaten all the fallen apples a few months back. The fawn had grown quite a lot during the summer, Y/N noticed.
After admiring the pair for a while, she picked up the book that she had read last night. She opened the heavy book where she had left of yesterday. She ran her fingers against the gold on the sides of the page. Bella had given her this book on her seventeenth birthday. Y/N was ecstatic after she ripped of the golden wrapping and saw a heavy book with the title " Little women". Bella had found it in a muggle- bookshop a week before Y/N's birthday. She had thought that Y/N would be fascinated by the intriguing story.
Of course, bella was completely right. Every spare moment Y/N got, she sat down in her armchair and read a few pages. ' Bella knows me so well' Y/N whispered to herself.
A few chapters later Y/N looked up dowards the big victorian clock hanging on her wall.
11:54.
She neatly folded over the top corner of her page before putting it back on the little table beside the armchair.
She reached down and put her shoes back on before walking towards the door. She felt a strange feeling in her body that she hadn't felt a lot the last few days. She felt excited. Trying on the dress almost made her forget the occasion on which she would wear it.
Once she stod outside the doors of the main livingroom, she meet the eyes of another house elf. The elf bowed to her in respect before opening the large doors. Once inside the gigantic room she saw Martha. She was standing a few feet away besides a huge table and half a dozen chairs. Besides the table there was a clothing rack of ebony wood. She could almost see the dress but Martha was in the way.
Once Martha moved closer to Y/N in order to greet her, Y/N could finally see the whole dress. It was made of a stunning white fabric and had small detailed embroidered roses over the whole skirt. The skirt was puffy, put not puffy enough to make it look like a cupcake dress. It had several layers of different fabrics. The bodice was sleeveless and adornished with thousands of microscopic diamonds. The dress was probably worth more than a regular man would earn in his entire life. More than he would earn in several lives for that matter.
Y/N was cut off from admiring the dress my Martha politely adressing her. Y/N had never been close to Martha, since Martha usually worked in the laundry, but from what Y/N had heard she was a kind woman. Y/N would guess that Martha was in her late thirties, since she had worked in the house for as long as Y/N could remember. Martha had a round, kind face, so it was hard to dislike her.
" Good afternoon Ms. Black, are you ready for trying on your dress?" Martha said in a gentle voice.
" Yes of course" Y/n replied in a bit too excited tone of voice.
Y/Ns cheeks quickly turned crimson from her sudden outburst. Martha uttered a gentle laugh before saying " You've always had quite a liking for clothes, if I remember correctly".
" From working in the laundy room I know that you own more clothes than anyone else in the house" Martha said in a sweet, giggly voice.
Martha then turned around and took down the gorgeous dress from its hanger.
" Please remove your dress and stockings Ms. Black " , Martha said in a little embarassed voice." You can put them on the chair over there" she said pointing to a chair beside the ebony clothing rack.
Y/N then pulled the dress over her head for what felt like the millionth time that day. She sat down on the nearest chair to take off her black stockings. She was getting quite tired of undressing and redressing so many times. She tried not to look Martha in the eye as she stood there, almost completely naked.
Martha then gestured for Y/N to stand in the middle of the floor. She then approached Y/N and carefully pulled the many layers of fabric over Y/N's head. Y/n could see nothing besides the different hues of white for quite a while before Martha finally managed to completely pull the skirt over Y/N's head.
Martha then moved around Y/N so she could face her back. She adjusted the bodice a little before starting to lace it up. Y/N felt a tight feeling over her lungs, but not enough to make her feel like it was hard to breathe.
Once the bodice finally was laced up, Y/N took a deep breath before looking herself in the mirror.
A silent tear escaped the corner of her eye. The emotions hit her like a train in full speed. She felt beautiful, and she completely adored the dress. The different hues of white made her look like a fresh white rose. The diamonds sparkeled and looked like a thousand tiny little stars. The gorgous dress didn't make her look bleak in comparison, instead it accentuated her already quite beautiful features.
Despite that, Y/n also felt a bit sad. Seeing herself in a weddingdress made it all feel so real . Before, she hadn't fully understood that she would be a married woman in a few days. Seeing herself in the dress made that realization hit her hard. Y/n was overwhelmed by nervousity. Before, she had only thought about how her huband might treat her badly. The girly weddingdress made her wonder if her husband would like her. Would he approve of her? , Would he think she was beautiful? A part of her desperatly wanted Lucus Malfoy to approve of her. She wanted him to love her and protect her from all the evils of this world.
Y/n silently cursed herself for thinking such thoughts. Lucius Malfoy would most likely ignore her completely. He only married her because he was forced to. If Y/N was unlucky, he would treat her very badly. Lucius Malfoy wasn't a kind man, and Y/n cursed herself for thinking he was and getting her hopes up.
All of a sudden Y/n didn't know what to feel anymore. Was she nervous? Scared? Excited?
'Maybe this won' t be so bad after all' Y/N hopefully thought to herself.
She dried the single tear from her cheek before Martha managed to see it. Y/N wanted to appear strong. Her need to control her surrondings made her terrified of showing that she was scared.
Just as her hand left her tearstained cheek the heavy mahogny doors burst open.
Y/N quickly turned her head towards the door to see who had entered. Her pulse slighty quickend as she saw who had entered. She knew that this visitor didn't just drop by to say a friendly hello. They always came with a message or to say something of utmost importance.
The sound of heavy heels reached her ears and Y/n took a deep breath.
Y/N's eyes then met the piercing gaze of her mother, Druella Black.
