Two boys stood at a crosswalk, staring at the oncoming traffic and watching the vehicles speed past in a blur.
The taller boy watched the light flashed to yellow and then red, and the cards came to a halt. He tugged on his friend's sleeve, waiting as a pair of eyes met his and flashed in realization. Two pairs of feet stepped off the sidewalk and onto the black pavement, shoes quickly hitting the ground as they quickly reached the other side.
Ni-ki pulled his phone out and handed it to the other boy as they began to tread through the dewy morning grass, and pulled his hoodie strings tighter when a cold breeze cut through the misty air.
"It's 9am already? Oh no, we better hurry up!"
He raised an eyebrow. "Why, Shota?"
Soul quickly handed the younger boy back his phone and picked up his pace, gently tugging Ni-ki along with him.
"Theo-hyung's gonna get mad if he realized that I've left the apartment without notice" he mumbled, quickly realizing that he forgot to inform his hyung about his absence from their apartment earlier.
Ni-ki nearly tripped over his feet as he huffed to keep up pace, the bag of pastries he had gripped in his left hand rattling around. "You didn't tell your Theo-hyung that you left?"
Soul shook his head. "Forgot."
The taller boy almost slapped his forehead at his friend's forgetfulness. "Can't you just text him?"
"My phone's dead, remember?" Soul groaned through breaths, the soles of his shoes heavily hitting the pavement as he struggled to regain balance of the backpack loosely hanging off his shoulder. The other japanese blinked in realization, remembering the worried text messages his friend's hyung had sent him the last time they had left without notice. It hadn't been fun, and Soul had arrived home to a worried white-haired hyung and his red-haired best friend.
"Does your Sunoo-hyung mind you leaving your apartment at late hours?" he remembered Soul had asked him at school the following day.
"I don't know, it's normally me that informs him about my whereabouts" he had whispered back, eliciting a surprised look from the older before their conversation was cut short by the shrill siren of the bell.
As the bustling city landscape melted into streets of neatly located residential buildings, Ni-ki bid his friend goodbye in front of his apartment building, quietly giggling to himself as he watched Soul's fluffy blonde hair bounce around as he rushed into the building and disappear behind elevator doors.
He realized that he must've spaced out for a couple minutes when his phone began to ring, snapping him back into the present moment when the notes suddenly began to spew out of his phone.
His cold fingers fumbled and tightly closed around his phone before he answered the call.
"Hyung?"
"Hey Riki, I think left your homework here at the studio" Hanbin's voice sounded over the speaker.
He let out an audible gasp. "Oh no, which one?"
"Uhm...well I can't really read the handwriting...I think it says...oh hey Euijoo...geography?"
Ni-ki paused for a second. "Oh that's not mine, that's Riki-A's. Was it written in red or black ink?"
"Red."
"That's Riki-A's. I don't think he finished it yet, he should be arriving at the studios soon though" the japanese boy confirmed.
A soft oh could be heard through the speaker before Hanbin's voice appeared again and thanked him, and hung up, probably to go return the papers to their owner.
