Chapter 28 – Jessie

Jessie's body ached in all the right places. She never thought she would ever experience the joys of coupling, let alone be married to this amazing man. However, in the joy, there had been sadness, and right now she was laying on a couch in Henry's arms as they waited for the broken couple to wake. About ten minutes after Adam had taken Tom into his arms, he had followed the sleeping boy into slumber. Both exhausted from their tears and misunderstandings of what was happening. If only Henry had taken the time to talk to Adam first, so he could have met Tom with all the information, rather than the whirlwind of romance and excitement that had ensued on their arrival.

Reality was harsh, but Adam now knew, and Tom would have to learn to accept that he was not responsible for his father's actions. Either way, their plans to ask Adam to move home with them, and to get on the road were slowly disintegrating. It was already midday and if they didn't move soon, they would need to stay another night.

Joe slipped into the room and moved quietly towards them. He smiled a knowing smile at the couple on the bed and then spoke, "The car is packed, and Adam's parents have made snacks. As rough as it's going to be, we need to wake them and get on the road in the next forty minutes. I would suggest staying another night, but you have a full day of clients on Monday, and you need one day to recoup from the travel."

Jessie groaned, she really didn't want to go back to work, she instead wanted to head out on a wonderful honeymoon. But none of this had been planned, so for the moment, this would have to do. She sat up and the two stood from the couch. Together they moved to Adam, and touching him on the arm, Henry spoke, "Adam, you need to wake up."

He grumbled slightly, then his eyes opened. "Sorry Uncle Henry, I'm awake."

Sitting beside him Henry smiled. "It's ok, it was a hard morning. I have spoken to your parents, and if it's ok with you, we would like you to come live with us for the two years before you and Tom can mate."

The man in Adam's arms made a sound as he came to. Realising where he was, Tom started to struggle to move away from his mate, alarm and fear on his face. But Adam being Adam just held him closer. "Hush now, stop your fussin. I'm not gonna hurt you and you're not in trouble. But I'm not letting you go so just hush."

Jessie could not remember another time she had witnessed Tom being babied like this. If she had not spent the last hour before the boys came back holding the terrified and grief-stricken Tom, she would have giggled at his comment. However, she knew he really needed reassurance he was safe. Jessie cautiously touched Adam's arm. "Adam, I know you mean well but maybe you should let him go, just to freshen up ok?"

He looked back to Tom who's breathing was fast but had settled a bit. "Ok but that's it, once we're in the car he's back with me." There was no missing the wolf's possessiveness showing through and she really hoped Henry would talk to the boy whilst she took Tom away to process what was happening. They walked to a small bathroom, she left Tom for a moment to relieve himself before joining him.

In all this time she had seen him as a boy. There were a few moments during the harrowing last month that Tom's adult side had shown through, and he had picked up his game and protected her on a few occasions. But the nineteen-year-old sitting on the edge of the bath, hands pulling at his sleeves, eyes puffy and red looked didn't look like anything other than a young boy needing some TLC. She ran warm water over a cloth and stood before him. "Can I wash your face Tom?" he sniffled and nodded his head. Carefully she washed the tears-stained face, as she did, she hummed softly.
