                                                       Chapter 3

When seven o'clock arrived, Amanda was already at Bella's. She wore a slightly stylish black dress with silver shoes and her hair was in a ponytail. After trying on so many outfits and losing her nerve, she'd decided to go simple. She sat waiting for him, Michael, for half of an hour before she decided to leave. How could she have been so stupid, she thought.

Of course, he stood her up. What was she thinking? Guys who have the looks that he had don't go for people who look like her, people who weren't skinny and pretty. Because of course skinny meant pretty and she already didn't have that, so the hope of being called beautiful was far-fetched. Sure, the world could be a hard place, but so what?

It had many lessons that it taught. The people in it taught the lessons and everyone, whether it's now or somewhere later down during a midlife crisis, start to believe the things taught and oh how many experiences did it take her to remember that one? Pretty is and will always be a size two.

Speaking about a size two, she was about to leave, but before she could reach the door, Lauren stepped in. She was clinging to the arm of a handsome gentleman. She came to a halt directly in front of Amanda. "Amanda! I can't believe what my eyes are seeing. Why, what are you doing in a place like this? I can't imagine you having the strings to get a table in this restaurant. You've only been in town a few days now and it takes a month in advance to get into this Place."

She said, casting Amanda a look of scrutiny. "I see nothing has changed for you. So what are you doing here, in such a beautiful restaurant and still dateless? I know. Was it one of those blind dates over the internet? Did he still manage to see past fake pictures that I am sure you had there."

"Actually I do have a date; he is just a little late." Amanda countered with a nervous smile. Why did Laura always have to make her feel bad about herself?

"It looks to me like you got stood up." Laura told her with a mocked smile. "Oh! Where are my manners? Amanda, this is John, John, this is Amanda."

"It's nice to meet you Amanda. You know, if you are in fact dateless you could probably join us." he told her and Lauren burst into a fit of laughter, but she stopped laughing when a man came to stand behind Amanda.

"Hi, I'm Michael." he said, extending his hand to John. "I'm afraid she's going to have to decline that invitation." He added before he pulled Amanda into his arms for a passionate kiss. ''Sorry I'm late, had a slight delay at work."

"That's okay." She managed with a shaky smile. "Are you hungry?"

"As a matter of fact, yes I am."

"Good. I hope you don't mind the wind because I have dinner set out on the Terrance."

"But.... you are the guy from the store. Why would you two be having dinner? Why Amanda, I feel even sorrier for you. A pity date. Was that the only kind that you could get? Dear believe me, the blind date turn down would have been better on your ego."

"Madam, please for your sake watch what you say to my woman."

"Your...... your........ Why I never? You know what? This is just too funny, John. Come on, darling let's go have dinner." Michael pretended to look around.
