Uraraka POV
All the classes after lunch had been cancelled for the hero course. They had been led to the main assembly hall- an airy room with a wall of large windows and whirring ac units. At the front was a stage with a projector behind it.
The students of 1-A had assumed they were going to be reprimanded for breaking two of the sinks in their dorms, but that wouldn't be enough to require the presence of 1-B and all the teachers that taught the hero courses. This had to be something important
The students were told to stand somewhere in the hall and talk amongst themselves. They soon realised that none of them knew what was going on, but as they rarely ever did, they decided to ignore that problem. Those who asked the teachers were told to go back to their classes
Some saw this as an opportunity to speak with their friends in other classes, and some to express their unwanted opinions.
It wasnt long until Monoma was out cold.
Through the noise, Uraraka could make out Momo's conversation with Tsu. She was talking about how the general courses were called to the hall before lunch. Her voice could hardly be heard over Tetsutetsu and Kirishima all but shouting about protein shakes.
After what felt like an eternity of standing, the floor of the stage opened up and a platform rose from inside of it. On it stood the principal of UA. Nezu cleared his throat and began what was sure to be a very long and tedious speech.
"Good afternoon students and teachers, I am very proud to announce the return of the UA Civil War. The 47th, to be precise," said Nezu, clapping his paws together.
"This again? Hadn't it been stopped because one of the board member's kids got hurt?" Midnight whispered to Aizawa at the side of the hall the teachers were seated.
"Yes. The board thought it'd be illogical to ban the tradition." Their conversation was drowned out by the students excited chatter.
Nezu waited for the chatter to die down before he continued. "Taking place in a bustling metropolitan city, the UA Civil War is a five-day off-campus experience where students simulate the heroic society you live in. In this city, a war between heroes and villains prevails. As the hero course, you will be split into two teams; the heroes and the villains. Both teams have the objective of apprehending or immobilising all members of the opposing team. The event will not end before five days are over because one of the teams has been defeated, however."
"But it's not as simple as winners and losers," he spoke into his mic loudly, talking over the crowd, "you will all be graded in terms of performance. You'll all be marked on..." Nezu continued to give an overview of the rules ("each team is allowed to have no more than three support course students helping them, but they may seek the assistance of any support gear companies that may have been opened by students when the event has started" and "to kill someone, you have to knock them out for a minute or more. If they are unconscious for less time, they'll have to stay in the citys hospital for three days, unable to fight") and the safety measures, at the request of Iida.
Uraraka tuned out to this part of the speech. She'd read the rules for the hero team later.
"And without further adieu, I will reveal the students that have been chosen to lead the hero and villain teams." Everyone looked a little bit more attentive at his words. "The leader of the hero team is Todoroki Shoto."
Applause filled the hall. Nobody was planning to join the villain team, why would they, they were training to be heroes. He wasn't the best choice, in most of their opinions- he was cold and not very approachable- but he would be a better leader than some. Even Bakugo didn't seem too incensed with not being chosen.
Todoroki made his way to the front of the hall and stood on the left side of Nezu, as he was told to. Uraraka noticed that Todoroki himself didn't appear to be pleased with the choice.
Once the talking had died down again, Nezu continued.
"And the leader of the villain team will be Midoriya Izuku." His announcement was met with dead silence. The teachers clapped unsurely yet politely as they looked at the shaking boy with pity. He could feel a lump rising in his throat as he willed tears not to spill. His cheeks were burning with embarrassment. Most of the students joined in with the clapping but were otherwise quiet. They all knew Midoriya to a certain degree but didnt think he seemed like the type to be able to lead anything, much less a team of villains.
As Midoriya moved to make his way to the front, Uraraka gave him an encouraging pat on the back. He had a way of making the most of a bad situation. Nezu clapped his paws together once again and said," Please make a line behind the leader of your chosen team."
Everyone rushed to stand in front of Todoroki without hesitation. Izuku stood alone on the right side of the room. He looked down at his feet, refusing to meet the gaze of anyone.
"But thats not fair! Deku will be outnumbered and he won't stand a chance against all of us," Uraraka said quietly to Jirou, who she'd stood behind, though maybe not quiet enough as a few people around them heard her. Some students nodded in agreement with her but none made an effort to move.
Nezu hummed, looking around the room. "Midoriya, do you think you'll be able to do this or should I change the teams?" Midoriya refused to meet his eyes.
"I think I'll be fine," he stammered, voice growing quieter as he spoke. Nezu nodded to Aizawa, who nodded back.
"Well then, the teams for the 47th UA Civil War have been decided," said Nezu, ignoring the cries of protest from the students as he made his way over to the teachers to speak with them.
