in which Marinette accepts Adrien's offer for tutoring the same afternoon she's babysitting (which she forgot about)
"Marinette, I need to speak with you!" Miss Mendeleiev calls out amongst the students' chatter. "Now, before class is dismissed in a couple minutes."
The pig-tailed girl slides off the stool and sheepishly walks over to the teacher's desk. "Yes?"
"You failed your last test," She says bluntly, handing her student a test back with a low score scribbled in red ink. "This is unacceptable! You've never had this low a grade in my class before. You used to be one of my top students."
Marinette offers a nervous smile. "I know, I know. I'm sorry, Miss Mendeleiev," She quickly defends. "I-I haven't had time to study the new material and—"
"I don't take excuses!" The teacher snaps, shaking her head in a disapproving manner. "You had all week to study for this test. What's your reason this time? Were you off with your friends, daydreaming in class, or just sleeping?"
Actually, I was busy saving Paris, but I can't exactly be honest about that. "I was helping my parents out in the bakery—"
"Maybe your parents should focus more on saving your education than their pastry business. You don't really want to fail school and inherit a bakery, do you?" Miss Mendeleiev stands from her chair. "You have a test on Friday, Marinette, and if you don't pass... well, I'm afraid you won't move in to the next grade year."
"What?!" Marinette shouts with wide eyes. "Because of one low test grade?"
"It's not just one low test grade, Marinette! You've turned in homework late—multiple times—and missed out on presentations and disrupted experiments with your peers! I don't know what's going on in your life, young lady, but you're dropping the ball! Out of everyone in this class, you have the lowest grade, and your recent behavior shows me you're not taking this class as seriously as you should."
The pig-tailed girl folds her hands together and begs, "Please, there has to be some extra credit I can do. I swear I'll study for the test on Friday."
Miss Mendeleiev crosses her arms with a sigh and says, "Well, I suppose there are assignments you can do—"
"I'll do anything!" She shouts.
The teacher sorts through the papers scattered around her desk and grabs a small purple folder. "Complete and turn these in and pass the test on Friday, and your grade will be saved."
"Thank you. I will. Thank you." Marinette takes the folder.
The bell rings, and the students begin gathering their things and exit the classroom.
The young girl walks back to her desk and slumps her body over the table, pressing her cheek into the cool metal. "I hate everything."
"Girl, you okay?" Alya asks as she gently rubs her shoulders. "Ooh, is it cramps? Do you need—"
"No, it's not that." Marinette sits up. "I'm failing this class!" She shouts, throwing her arms up.
"Okay, I'm sure you're not failing—"
"If I don't past this next test, I have to repeat this year," The pig-tailed girl answers, showing her best friend the low test score.
