A serious talk

Jade's POV

The next morning, I wake up alone in my bed. I could have sworn Lizzie stayed the night. I looked at the clock and saw that it was 8 in the morning. I got in the shower and allowed the hot water to relax my muscles. After my shower, I got dressed and made my way downstairs.

I walked into the kitchen and saw Lizzie standing there making breakfast in my oversized dress shirt. I smiled at the sight and walked over to her. I hugged her waist from behind and looked over her shoulder at what she was making.

"Good morning" I said in her ear. I saw her smile as a slight shiver was sent through her body. "Morning. I'm making you some toast with eggs and avocado." Thank god it was a healthy breakfast. I was never a fan of heavy meals in the morning.

"It looks great." I told her as I walked over to one of the bar stools that stood at the kitchen island. I really enjoy these moments with Lizzie, but knew I had to talk to her. I was not ready to enter a relationship at this point in my life. Lizzie is amazing, but I'm leaving for Greece in only a few weeks and don't want to just start something serious before then.

I was pulled out of my thoughts by Lizzie setting my plate down in front of me. I looked at her and gave her a quick smile. "What's going on in that pretty head of yours?" She asked. I sighed before answering.

"I'm just thinking. I really like what we have going on, but I'm not really ready for a relationship yet. I have a busy lifestyle where I move all over the world and leave for Greece in a few weeks. I don't know how long that's going to take. I'm sorry if I led you on, but I can't do anything more than we're doing right now." I tell her honestly.

She chuckled at my explanation, which I made me curious as to why. "That's totally fine Jade. I'm not looking for anything serious either. I just got out of a relationship and am mainly looking for a fun and nice person to be around. We can keep it casual if you want."

Well, that went better than I thought. "That sounds great. We can be something like friends with benefits if you want to put a label on it." I propose. She nods and we continue breakfast.

After breakfast, Lizzie got changed and we both left for set together. I am filming some of the last shots for the documentary with Scarlett today. On our way over we just had a bit of small talk about my plans in Greece.

"Where are you planning on filming?" Lizzie asks as she keeps her eyes focused on the road.

"I'll probably do the majority of filming on an island called Lesbos. That's where thousands of refugees are located and most of the crisis in Europe takes place. A couple of years ago there were around 14.000 refugees on that island alone." I explain as we start to get closer to set.

"Wow. I never realised just how many refugees there are in Europe. Would it be comparable to what is happening around our border with Mexico?" She asks. The US has always struggled with the number of refugees coming in from Mexico and they are treated horribly by ICE.

"If you want a comparison, that would be suitable yes, but the refugee crisis in Europe is on a much bigger scale. However, a lot of European countries do not build borders around their countries to keep them out. They allow the refugees to ask for asylum." I tell her. I really do not like the way the US is dealing with the Mexican border. That is also why I want to do these documentaries. Maybe I'll add the Southern border crisis to the list of topics I still want to cover.

We arrive on set and we both get out of the car. I notice Scarlett in the distance and wave to her. She gives me a small wave back as she looks between Lizzie and I. She waits for me as I jog over to her with all my gear.

"Morning!" I tell her. "Morning, Jade." She greets me back. "Did you come here with Lizzie?" She asks.

"Oh yes. She stayed the night and we both had to get to set so why not drive together." I respond. She gives me an uninterested look and starts walking towards her trailer. Strange. I decided to think nothing of it and walk with her.

As we enter the trailer we both sit down. She looks at me like she is trying to figure me out. "Are you and Lizzie dating?" She asks after a while. My eyebrows raise slightly at the question. Why was she so interested in me and Lizzie?

"Not in a serious way. We just want to be a casual thing, nothing serious." I tell her. She just nods. I remember that she told me she was going to talk to Colin yesterday.

"How did your talk with Colin go yesterday?" I ask. She looks down slightly. "Pretty good. We talked things through." She did not sound very happy with that talk at all. "Are you sure? You can talk to me."

She sighs before making eye contact with me. "He told me to stop working with you." She spoke in barely a whisper. "He what? Why would he do that?" I asked.

"Apparently he doesn't like how close we've gotten. He thinks you want to steal me from him. Which is clearly nonsense since you're focused on Lizzie." She said that last part with a sassy tone. I decide to not take offence since she is dealing with a lot right now.

It makes me think back to these past weeks with Scarlett. Have we gotten close? Yes. Do I like being around her? Also yes. But I never thought of it that way. Sure, she's a stunning woman, but she's straight, right?

"I would never try to steal you from him. Sure, I like being with you, but I would never purposely be a homewrecker. Especially since that would have a big impact on Rose." I tell her honestly while looking straight into her eyes, so she knows I'm serious.

"Rose doesn't like Colin anyway, so that wouldn't be too big of an issue." Scarlett mutters. I frown at what she just said. "Why doesn't Rose like him?" I question.

"She says he can get very mad at her easily. He never hurt her, but she's just not really a fan." She shrugs her shoulders. "Scarlett this is some serious shit. If he doesn't treat Rose well, then why are you still with him?" I tell her in a stern tone.

"I- I don't know, honestly. I think I just want to go back to the way we used to be. He used to be so sweet and thoughtful. He would actually make an effort with Rose. Now he's just grumpy all the time and I don't know how much longer I'll be able to excuse him." She sighs. This was probably the reason they were arguing the other night.

"Let me give you a tip. If he doesn't change his behaviour in the next week, then leave him. The longer you stay with him when he's behaving like this, the harder it will be on Rose and yourself." I advise her. She really needs to learn how to stand up for herself and her daughter and set boundaries.

"Okay. I will. Now can we get back to filming?" She asks me. I simply nod and give her a warm smile, trying to help her relax a little after that conversation. I start setting everything up and we get on filming for the rest of the day.

A/N
Absolutely no hate towards Colin. I actually really like him and Scarlett together in real life, but I have to make him a bit of a bad guy for the story.
