"Say, Kakashi-sensei, do you have a date for the festival next week?" Sakura inquired innocently, though she couldn't keep the goofy grin off her face. Even Sasuke seemed less serious than usual.
The Jonin scratched his neck.
"Ah, no. Actually, I wasn't planning on going."
"You can't be serious? Everyone is going! Even Sasuke, and he's the most antisocial person I know!" Naruto shouted.
"Well if a loser like you is going, then I am too," Sasuke scoffed.
"Don't you worry, Kakashi-sensei. We'll get you a date," Sakura assured.
"But-"
His three students were gone before he could further protest.
"So who exactly are we going to set Kakashi-sensei up with?" Naruto asked after they were out of earshot.
"Y/n-sensei, obviously," Sasuke answered.
"Come on, Naruto, even you should be able to see the spark between those two! I think Kakashi-sensei is just too shy to talk to her, so we'll have to help them out. This isn't just a date, it's the start of something beautiful," Sakura sighed dreamily.
Naruto smiled conspiratorially, finally catching on.
"Oh, I get it now! We're helping Kakashi-sensei get a girlfriend!"
"Exactly! If anyone deserves to find love, it's him."
Y/n was rather surprised when Kakashi's Genin team approached her while she was training by herself.
"What's up you guys?"
"We were wondering if you had a date for the upcoming festival," Sakura asked.
The other woman sighed.
"I'm afraid not. I've already been assigned a mission on that day."
"What? That's cruel, even for Grandma Tsunade!" Naruto shrieked.
"Damn," Sasuke muttered.
"That's life," she said with a half smile, trying to hide her disappointment. "You guys make sure to have fun for me."
"We're not giving up that easy, believe it!"
For what was perhaps the tenth time that week, Naruto stormed into the Hokage's office without knocking.
"What is it this time?" Tsunade asked tiredly, not bothering to look up.
"You can't send y/n-sensei on a mission during the festival!"
"And why is that? A shinobi's duty comes first, you all know that."
"But this is important. Please Lady Tsunade, could you try to work something out," Sakura plead.
"If you can give me a good enough reason to, I may be persuaded to change my mind."
"Well, Kakashi-sensei needs a date for the festival, and it's clear that he and y/n-sensei would make a perfect couple, so they have to go together."
Tsunade arched a brow.
"They would, huh? Well who am I to get in the way of a blossoming romance? Y/n can have the day off."
They began cheering.
"Provided that you three do her mission instead."
"But I wanted-"
Naruto's protest was cut off by Sakura forcefully covering his mouth and Sasuke slinging his arm tightly around his shoulder in warning.
"We'd be happy to. What are we up against?"
Naruto still looked a little forlorn as they returned to the training grounds to deliver the good news.
"Y/n-sensei, guess what?" Sakura sang.
"Yo. Back so soon?"
"We have some good news for you! You're free to go to the festival now! Does 6pm work for you?"
"Yeah, I can be ready by six, but why? What did you guys do?"
"Just be ready!"
They ran off again, leaving the woman slightly confused, but pleased. She really did want to go, but as Tsunade had pointed out, duty always came first.
Kakashi wasn't as easy to find. They searched half the village before finally cornering him in front of a store that sold women's clothing, holding a large bag.
Strange.
"You better clear your plans Kakashi-sensei, because you have a date for the festival," Sakura declared proudly.
"I what?"
"We got you a date so you wouldn't have to be a loser," Sasuke said, smirking.
"Uh, thanks? But really, I'm fine."
"I guess we'll just have to tell y/n-sensei that you ditched her."
Kakashi visibly perked up upon hearing her name, something that wasn't missed by his students.
"On second thought, I can probably spare the time."
"Well you better not be late this time! You need to pick her up at 6pm sharp," Sakura warned.
Kakashi gave a closed-eye smile.
"Those two better have really cute kids," Naruto grumbled, earning a slap across the head from Sakura.
"Don't be weird!" she scolded. "That's not why we're doing this!"
"Idiot," Sasuke sighed.
"Well they better get together at least because we're missing the festival, and this mission is dragging on forever too."
"Of course they will. The festival is so romantic; it's the perfect place for a date. Once they spend some time there, they won't be able to ignore their feelings, and one of them will confess," Sakura declared with absolute confidence.
