Jessica never thought she'd be keeping such a big secret from one of the most important people in her life. She didn't really mean to, it was a complete accident that she caught feelings for someone who just so happened to be her best friends younger brother. Once upon a time, he was the annoying kid who threw a worm at her face and made her cry at Ronnie's birthday party. But that was over a decade ago, since then they've graduated high school and Sam has taken off to see the world with his brothers and best friend. Jess and Ronnie are gearing up to graduate college in the coming year and they're all, well, grown up now. Now, Sam is a kind, caring, extremely talented and incredibly handsome young man. Now, Jess can see him for who he is.

It started after she answered a video chat back in November. Ronnie had left for a date and Jess was using her roommate's laptop to study for one of their shared college classes. An incoming call popped up and without paying much attention, she answered it. Sam's big brown eyes looked upwards towards the screen as the call went through and she seen them widen just a bit before a large grin broke out on his face. He had cut his hair since she had seen him last, it made him look older somehow. She suddenly felt self conscious about her matching plaid pajamas that were covered in turkeys, a gift from her older sister that she adored. She also realized that she was wearing no make-up and had her long golden hair pulled into a high pony-tail with pieces frizzed and sticking out around her head. Sam had seen her looking much worse but this time felt different.

"Jess, hey! Wow, I uh, I was expecting Ronnie." He ran a hand through his already slicked back hair as he spoke.

"Oh yeah, sorry. She's not home right now, I'm just using some of her notes..."

"No, no! Don't apologize. It's actually a nice surprise, I feel like it's been too long since seen you're pretty face anyways." Sam gave a lopsided smile and Jess actually found herself blushing at the compliment.

She found out that he was in Perth, Australia for a show. He told her about the places that they'd been and even asked about her own adventures. He was hanging on every word, even though she believed her own experiences seemed dull in comparison to his. They caught up and enjoyed one another's company for a little over an hour before Danny finally entered the room and reminded Sam that he had an interview to get to, seeing as it was midday there. Reluctantly, the call was ended and Jess was left feeling a mixture of giddiness and longing for more time with him. The time in the corner of the screen told her that it was too late to keep studying so, with a sigh, she closed the computer and headed to bed. As she drifted to sleep, thoughts of her best friends brother plagued her mind.

The next morning, she awoke to a text from him and couldn't help the beaming smile that took over her face. They had just finished a show and were going to a bar, the night in full swing for them on the other side of the world. Excitement filled her, knowing that he could've just left it at the ended video chat and went on with his life not thinking of her again, but instead here they were, chatting away about anything and everything. She could barely set her phone down for more than a few minutes before it would sound off with a new message. After getting ready for the day ahead, Jess found Ronnie in the kitchen making breakfast.

"I can't believe you're even up this early. What time did you get home last night?" She questioned her friend, stealing a piece of bacon from the plate beside the stove.

Ronnie gave a sly smile before answering. "About an hour ago..."

"Veronica! You little scoundrel!" With a giggle Ronnie goes back to flipping the bacon over in the skillet.

"Oh relax, nothing happened. He was a perfect gentleman. We talked for forever and it was late so I just, you know... Stayed over." Just as she finished her explanation, Jessica's phone dings twice in a row, causing her to break out into another smile.
