Prologue

The dark clouds cover the sky making the night look spectral. The woods was quiet, almost peaceful. Giving away none of the silent predators lurking in them. Not more than half a mile, houses started to show up. The air was soothing. The village was asleep.

Twigs crunched at the multiple paws and warning howls sliced the silence. Profuse hooves followed. The pack ran as the alpha stood guard, hurrying the others. The others ran for their life with a final bow to their alpha, except one. Her ears were drooped and she refused to move. He growled at her, urging her to retreat.

"They are there! Get them!" shouts filled the air.

"Split up. Two of you to the west, the others to the east" His voice was authoritative. The sound of hooves was nearing them. The alpha knew she wouldn't survive another night if she stayed. She had to go, if not for herself, at least for their daughter.

"We meet for the last time" said the voice as hooves came to a stop with a neigh. Alpha moved front, barring his canines at the human. A low growl rumbled in his chest, a command to the luna and a final warning to the intruder. With a final longing look at her beloved and steeling her heart, she did as per command.

"Your pack shouldn't have trespassed the village boundary. Now I'll give you two choices, fight or flight. Either way you'll be dead though" He smirked as the alpha stood his ground, snarling.

Without second thoughts they charged. Just before they met, a speck of silver slipped through the cloak of murky clouds, highlighting the sharp canines of the alpha and sharp edges of his sword.

A castle lined with golden patterns stood majestically high, peppered with silver, in the midst of green lush. A few armed men were bespattered at the door. Their strong posture upright and unwavering, their eyes scanning for any threats. Sound of multiple hooves echoed in the air, as the source neared. Dust swirled up, as a striking white mare came to halt along with its other companions. A pair of leathered combat boots collided with the ground, as a gallant man jumped off the mare. His gloved fingers weaved through the silky, white mane of the majestic creature and it neighed delightfully at its master's attention.

"Your Majesty"

Both the bulky soldiers knelt on one knee and bowed, acknowledging him. He wordlessly dismissed them and strode inside the huge castle doors. As soon as he entered in, he was accompanied by two armed men, either side of him in his tow. The men who were standing at the either sides of the long, well-decorated hallways knelt, bowing their heads as the young man strode through. Eventually, they came to a halt in front of a huge oak door, which was garnished with gold and silver, embedded with rubies, emeralds and sapphires. The room was located in the midst of a little garden, away from disturbing noises. Both the armed men stepped to the sides, as if they were trained to do this their whole lifetime; as if they were robots. Two soft knocks resounded in the peaceful silence.

"Come in" said a muffled voice.

His willowy fingers grabbed the golden, vein-like handles and pushed them open to give a view of a simple yet exorbitant room. Polished wooden desk made of the finest quality was not the only thing that was catchy in that large room. Glamorous paintings were hung on the the walls and the frames were floral finished. He walked past them and knelt on a knee, his cape flowing elegantly along with his graceful moves.

"You may rise" A slightly rasp voice said in an authoritative tone.

The younger one rose to his feet to meet the gaze of judging brown orbs. The older one had a kingly aura around him which made people instinctively give respect to him. His lustrous robe swept on the glassy marble floor, as he trudged to a cushioned chair. He nodded at the younger one, his coal colored locks messed up by gust of crisp air.

"Wolves were eliminated out of boundaries. Two of them had to be killed" He said the last part with a slight amusement in his chocolate brown orbs, a small smirk forming on his face. The other man hummed.

"FATHER! I heard that-" the sentence was left hanging in mid air as the figure ran into the room. A baby pink frock hugged her sylphlike figure, flowing down aesthetically along with golden blonde locks. Darker floral patterns ran down along the upper front of the frock, down through her netted sleeves.

The serious aura in the room vanished at her entrance. Her face beamed in happiness, as a pair of brown orbs connected with her own hazel colored ones. Without further delay, she launched herself in his arms, buried her head in his muscular chest. He chuckled and returned her hug, slightly messing up her golden locks. She instantly untangled herself from his grasp and pouted.

"You always mess my hair up!" she complained, earning a hearty laugh from the older man. Another woman walked inside, sighing at the sight, with a small smile.

"I think you have completed the given job Luke"

Nodding, the younger male knelt in respect, bowing his head. The older woman ruffled his charcoal colored hair affectionately, before motioning him to rise.

A deafening silence fell, as they realized that a single soul was missing. Who had gone to fulfill a mission assigned by the king, and haven't returned in a month.

One was disappointed, one was concerned; one was happy, one was sad. The same question swirled in their head, for different reasons:

'Is everything alright? Will the mission be done?'

Hey guys! So to those who have read my previous book, thank u so much for the love and support ❤️. And needless to say, that book has been deleted but this book contains the same story but with a few different twists along the way. U know.. when we first published our previous book, king of darkness, we thought it was not good enough, so we decided to develop the plot even more and give the story a bit more life. I'll try my best to update as soon as possible. I have a lot of stuff to do in my school and I barely have time to read and write stories in Wattpad. I would NOT abandon or discontinue my story at any cost. I promise u that. I've been on a hiatus long enough and I'll try to update as much as possible. And to all those who decided to read the whole author note and chose to read my book out of all the possible ones,
Thank you very much.
My reality is always bad and Wattpad is kinda like the only escape from reality for me. And u guys make it the best way to forget my troubles so

Thank you so very much for being here.

Well, see u soon 😃
Sayonara~ and a merry Christmas 🌲⛄
