Chapter 36: STARTING THE JOURNEY

Third person POV:
Virat- Anushka both woke up and did their usual morning routines. Virat was then greeted by his family a happy new year and he spent a great time with them on breakfast while Anushka cooked breakfast for her and had it while video calling her family. She celebrated a virtual new year with family this time. Finally, they both got free and Virat messaged Anushka to get ready by 11 and told her that he'll pick her up. Anushka got ready in a woolen crop top along with ripped jeans, she didn't wore many winter clothes because they were meeting in the noon.

Virat also got ready in a black casual t-shirt and trousers and drove to Anushka's house.

As soon as Virat reached Anushka's home and rang the bell, the door was opened by someone whom he didn't recognise. A man formally dressed, he was too surprised that he kept standing on the door only. The person who opened the door was not believing that he is right in front of THE VIRAT KOHLI. He somehow controlled his fan emotions and asked Virat to get in. Virat finally stepped into the house. He saw that there were many other people present also, all formally dressed. But Anushka was nowhere to be seen. As soon as all those people saw Virat, they screamed with happiness. Some were rubbing their eyes to confirm that it's reality while some ladies were about to faint with happiness.
“Hii guys, can I know where Anushka is?” he asked gently.
“Sir, I am a big if yours. I can't, i can't..I can't believe I am seeing the virat kohli” said one of the girls stammering.
At the same time Anushka finally entered the scene not knowing that Virat has arrived. He saw her and got relaxed while she also became happy to see him.
She went to Virat and they both hugged.
“Happy new year, Vee” she wished.
“Same to you too, Nushkie.. ” he replied with a smile.
“And you must be wondering about these people. They are from our company and came to wish me New year.” Anushka cleared the confusion.
“Ohh. Good to see you guys” Virat said to everyone present and they all were dying out of happiness.
“Okay guys, Thank you for the surprise visit. I'll be leaving now” Anushka said to her employees.
“Mam, We have brought a cake. We'll be very happy if you guys cut it together” They requested and Virat Anushka agreed.
They cut the cake and fed the first bite to each other. Everyone present was just in Aww of these two. Finally they all left and Anushka Virat also sat in Virat's car to leave.
“So, how's the first day of the year going till now?” Virat asked.
“It's been quite good. Talked to mumma, Arnav and Kiara in the morning and then getting to meet these guys. So, It has been Fabulous. How has been yours?” Anushka replied.
“As amazing as yours. Breakfast with family and then video call with the whole team” he said.
“Whattt... Video call with the team and you guys didn't even invite me? Whyyy?” Anushka said sulking.
“I am sure you wouldn't have wanted to be a part of that video call for sure. You would've disconnected within a minute.” Virat said quite confidently...
“Why? How come you so sure?” Anushka asked.
“Because all we did on video call was abuse each other in every possible language and talked embarassing stuff which you clearly mustn't have been interested in” Virat said laughing and Anushka understood that what rubbish they would've talked and now she was happy that they didn't invite her.
“Btw where are we going?” Anushka asked.
“That's for me to know and you to find out” he said.
After a good 45 minute ride Virat stopped the car and they both got down. They stopped at a gaming station and were warmly welcomed by the security. Anushka was quite nervous to be with Virat in front of so many people, Virat realised and just hold her hand and walked with her. Anushka also became comfortable and then they both got all busy in playing fun games. Anushka and Virat was being all goofy and kids playing the games there and were loving every moment of being together. After good 2-3 hours of fun and games, they left from there and had some food in thier car only.
“Now, Are we going home?” Anushka asked. She wanted no as an answer.
“There is still one place left to be visited. So, let's go there and then leave.” Virat said and Anushka became happy. They finally reached the place and as Anushka stepped out she saw a beautiful cliff from where the whole city was visible. It was 5 in the evening and a beautiful sunset was welcoming them. Anushka was mesmerized by the place when Virat slowly tapped on her shoulder.
“Just like the bakery and that lake is your peaceful spot, it is my peaceful spot. I have been here in all my worst moments and in all my happiest moments. This place has seen me cry, laugh, stressed and happy. This place just gives me strength to always try once more, to always believe in myself. In short, I love this place” Virat said and Anushka could feel what this place means to Virat. She was thinking how wrong people's perception about this man is. They think he is fascinated by expensive cars and gifts but he is happiest being on a small cliff. She held his hand and they both sat at the end of the cliff looking at the setting sun with entwined hands. For Virat, this was the most perfect moment. He couldn't hold himself anymore and said
“Nushkie”. Anushka who was lost in the beauty of the place looked at Vee. Virat looked in her eyes and for him, they were the most beautiful thing he has ever seen. His heart started beating so fast and he finally found the perfect words.
“I love you” he said in a slow voice. Virat was still looking into Anushka's eyes. This was all very unexpected for anushka, she was too shocked to react. Her heart wanted this but in the moment she felt numb. Her soul was happy to hear these words. His three words healed everything broken in Anushka, she could feel the magic of those words but her face was not expressing anything. It was numb. Virat knew how surprising this must be for Anushka so he slowly put his hand over her and said.
“Nushkie, I don't expect an answer. This is what my heart says and I felt you have the right to know so I said it. So, we can still enjoy this beautiful sunset”. Anushka's eyes were all wet. Virat could see tears forming in Anushka's eyes.
“Nushkie, you need not to feel guilty if you don't feel the same. You need not to even worry. We are still the same friends who'll tease each other and will pick each other from dark. This confession or my feelings will change nothing.” Anushka loved Virat but she was in a dilemma. She had her own reasons to not say anything, thus her eyes got wet but Virat again managed to console Anushka. Anushka and Virat again started looking at the sky admiring the beautiful sunset. Everything was so perfect. Slowly the sun completely set and darkness took over the sky. They were still sitting there in each other's arms looking at the city and the stars shining. Anushka and Virat hadn't spoke a word ever since the confession. Virat felt happy to share his feelings and still having Anushka with her while Anushka was having a fight between her brain and heart. She finally let the heart win and spoke.
“Vee..” she said still looking at the sky.
“Hmm..” Virat replied not breaking the comfort.
“You know, I never thought I'll ever say this to someone or even feel like this for anyone ever but everything went with the flow.. Nothing was in my control” Anushka said and then stopped for a second. Virat tightened his grip over her shoulder giving her the assurance that he's there for her.
“I didn't realise when I started developing these feelings for you and now, I can't keep them in my heart anymore” Anushka said and she slowly lifted her head from his shoulder and got out of his grip and sat straight, virat also looked at her sitting opposite to her. She looked in his eyes and with all her might confessed finally.
“Yes, I have fallen for you Virat. I love you, Vee. I love you” she said and there were tears in her eyes and she herself didn't know why. Virat couldn't believe what he heard, these are the words he would love to listen all his life. The love of his life confessing her love for him, what can be better than this for Virat. He felt complete in that moment, as if he got something which was missing in his life and all this excitement and happiness were clearly visible in his glowing eyes but he didn't want Anushka to be forced into saying or accepting anything.
“Nushkie, you don't have to say anything just to make me feel better. Just say what your heart feels. I don't want to force my feelings on you” Virat said with concern.
“Vee, This is what my heart screams. I love you and that's the truth. I am not saying these words just to please you but they have become the biggest truth of my life. I love with my whole heart.” Anushka said and Virat couldn't express how happy was he to hear her. Before they could've celebrated the moment, Anushka spoke.
“But. ” She said with tears in her eyes and they were the tears of sadness.
“What's it Nushkie..? You can say it.”
Virat said gently taking her hands into his.
“But Vee, I can't commit to you” she said with a heavy voice that carries so much pain. Virat couldn't understand what just happened but all he know was that her Nushkie was crying and he never want that to happen. He slowly wiped her tears and Anushka continued.
“Even confessing and admitting my feelings is a very big thing for me but I can't commit. I can't hurt my mom, I can't go into a relationship.” Saying these words Anushka broke into tears and hid her face in Virat's chest. Virat slowly rubbed her back and consoled her.
“Nushkie, it's okay. You need not to cry. If you don't want to start a relationship, there is no problem. But you need not to cry. We'll handle it all together.” Virat said and only Virat knew how hard was it for him to say these words but he meant each word he said.
Anushka stayed in Virat's arms for 10 minutes and final sat.
“I know Virat, I'm being unfair to you but the thing is”
“Anushka, nobody is being unfair, we are just being honest. And you are not bounded to tell me anything, share only if you want“ he said and Anushka nodded in a yes
“Vee, Mom hates relationships. She never stopped any of us from doing anything and this is the only thing she never want us to get indulged in. I know it may sound quite controlling to somebody but we understand why she says so. She has suffered a lot because of that disgusting human and she want us to be protected from all those heartbreaks and betrayals. I have seen her going through all that shit and I never want to break her heart by going into a relationship. I don't want that..I don't want...” she broke down in tears saying these words. After a minute she finally composed herself.
“Is it because of your dad? Is he the reason?” Virat asked.
“He doesn't deserve to be called a dad. He ruined our lives, he broke my mom's trust, he broke my mom, he broke us. He is the reason we faced so much in our yonger days. I'll kill that person if I meet him” Virat never saw Anushka hating someone so much and that too her own dad.
“You know Vee, Mom and that person had a love marriage. Mumma and he used to study in the same college and they started dating. He made all the promises and all of that and married mumma at the age of 23.. Then he requested mumma to shift to England and mom couldn't deny him. He even restricted mom from continuing job there, mumma kept obeying him for the sake of their marriage and then she got pregnant with me and Arnav. He cheated on my mom with his secretary and when mom confronted him, he kicked her out of the home when she was 7 months pregnant with twins. Can you imagine how heartless that creature was? Mom was broken but for our sake she continued her life, she got a job and delivered us. It was hell for her to manage two infants and her job at the same time. But she kept doing it for our sake. She gave us the best possible life and when we were finally getting back to normal, he appeared again. Me and Arnav were 5 years old when he came back. He did all that apology drama and promised that he has changed and asked mumma to give him second chance and when she denied he attempted suicide, mom always loved that man so she accepted him again and he came back to our lives. It was all going okay for 6 months and then mom got pregnant again with Kiara, we all were happy but he was planning something else. He won mom's trust and again betrayed her. He took away all our money and property that mom bought with her hard work. He took away every penny from us and we were again on the road. Mumma's second pregnancy was tricky so she couldn't work also and we didn't even had food to eat and house for shelter. There was one friend of mom and she arranged flights for us to India, we came back and mom gave birth to Kiara. We shifted to Bangalore and started our new journey. Only we know, how much mumma has suffered, Me and Arnav have sacrificed our childhood because of that man's betrayal. Over years, mom has only grown hate towards relationships. Me and Arnav had made our mind from childhood to give mom a life that she deserves and we have thankfully been successful. Now, she is herself an independent business woman and that gives her joy. Whatever happened to us, we never wanted Kiara to go through the same that's why we sent her to US with all the little money we had. That's the reason, I can't commit. Mumma will be very hurt if I go into a relationship” Anushka said and Virat was so amazed to know how strong Anushka's mom is and how much has Anushka suffered. He took her into a hug which conveyed that he'll be there for her always.
“Nushkie, you all are a true example of what struggle looks like. You deserves the world and all the happiness.” Virat said and Anushka was still crying. Virat also wanted Anushka to cry it out and let all her pain go. Anushka has talked about this with someone after ages and she has kept it in her heart all her life. She kept crying on Virat's shoulder for 30 minutes.
“Feeling better?” Virat asked Anushka when she stopped crying.
“Yeah..” Anushka replied.
“So, what to do now?” Anushka asked.
“As you wish Nushkie, it'll be your decision and I'll respect it. And one thing I assure you is our friendship is never going to fade and I won't ever betray you” Virat said.
“I know Virat, I trust you. I know you can't even think of hurting someone but What will I tell mom?” Anushka was confused.
“I can only say that I'll be with you. If you want to talk to your mom, I am ready for that and if you decide something else, I am fine with that too” Virat said.
“Why are so good, Virat. You are making things more difficult for me..” Anushka said and Virat smiled.
“Okay let me make it easy for you. Firstly, decide what do YOU want? Where does your happiness lie? What you wish to do? And a mother can never go against her child's happiness. Her happiness lies in yours so she will be the most unhappy to see you sad. Take your time, decide what's best for you and your mom. You are the apple of her eye and nobody knows it better than you what will make her unhappy or what will make her happy.” Virat said and Anushka considered his advice. After good 10 minutes, Anushka spoke.
“I have decided” Anushka said.
“I m proud of you, Nushkie” Virat replied.
“Atleast, know my decision.” Anushka said
“I know whatever you have decided must be the best for everyone. I trust you” he said with a smile and Anushka was now sure of her decision.
“I am ready to step into a relationship. I am ready to start a new bond, a new journey with you Virat.” Anushka said and Virat's happiness knew no bounds. He was over the moon with Anushka's words.
“But Nushkie, you can still think and reconsider your decision. I don't want to rush things, you can take your time. Neither you are going anywhere nor am i, you'll always find me standing beside you in your highs and lows despite of the decision you take. You can think about it.” He still advised because he didn't want her to feel bad in any condition.
“This is the reason I took this decision Vee. I am blessed to be loved by a selfless person like you and mumma has always taught me to always respect and value our blessings. You are my blessing,my Vee. I have thought about it and I know you are the best for me. Mumma always wants the best for me in life and she will understand that her daughter is lucky to find a gem like you. And moreover, we are together then we will handle everything. Right?” She said.
“Always with you” Virat said and then he cupped her face and landed a sweet kiss on her forehead making Anushka blush.
“So, now let me ask it formally. Will you be my girlfriend, Nushkie?” Virat asked getting on one knee.
“Yes Vee, I'll love to have you as my boyfriend” she said and they both hugged. They looked at the stars and thanked god for blessing them with each other. They finally moved back to the car to get back to their homes
“Anushka, let's talk to Aunty. I'll be with you. She is returning tomorrow so I can come to ur house” Virat offered while driving.
“No Virat, this is not the time. We don't know how will she react and you'll have to leave for IPL tomorrow. I don't want you to be messed up in these thoughts while going for such an important league. Let's wait for sometime.” Anushka suggested.
“But, I'll be busy in IPL for a whole month then ” he said.
“It's Okay.. We will talk to her after IPL. But can I request you just one thing?” Anushka asked sincerely.
“Sure”
“Can we not disclose to anyone about this? Because I don't want mom to feel as if we have hidden something from only her. And what if someone by mistake tells her, it'll be a disaster.”
“Okay, sure. I won't tell anybody, and it will be easy as I won't meet the teammates for one whole month because of IPL.” Virat replied.
“But Can I tell Ro? Because he already knows that I'm in love with you” he said and Anushka got surprised.
“Really? Does he know this?”
“Yes...” Virat replied.
“Okay, we'll tell him. Infact let's tell him right now as we are together also. We won't have time together after this” Anushka suggested and Virat agreed in a second and stopped the car on the side of the road. Anushka dialled Ro's number and connected it with car bluetooth. Rohit picked up the call.
“Hello Bro. Kaisi hai?” Ro asked unaware that Vee is also present.
“Ekdam Bdia. Actually, I wanted to tell you something.” Anushka said.
“Tell me.. I am all ears” Rohit replied quickly.
“Actually, One boy proposed me and I finally said yes to him. I have finally found my valentine, Ro.” Anushka told Ro to trouble him a bit while Rohit on the other side just got a mini heart attack as he couldn't accept his friend getting heartbroken. He couldn't understand what just happened.
“Anushka, You're kidding right?” Ro asked hopefully.
“Why would I be kidding? Aren't you happy for me, Ro?” Anushka said and Virat was having a lots of fun. Ro became very upset. He didn't know how will Virat cope with this.
“No, I'm happy for u Anushka. But You never told us that there is someone. Isn't this decision too quick? Are u sure? Reconsider the decision once” Rohit was by now totally stressed and upset and was trying very hard to sort things out.
“No Ro. I m very happy. I love that boy a lot. And this decision isn't quick, I gave it a deep thought and then decided.” Virat and Anushka continued the prank.
“But yarr.. how is this possible? What will happen now?... Abey yarr..But if you love the man, then I am happy for you Anushka. Good luck, behna” Rohit said with sadness. Anushka was happy to see how Rohit is considering her happiness even though he knows his best friend will be heartbroken. She has really got some great friends.
“Anushka, did you tell Vee?” Rohit asked.
“Yeah, obviously. He was the first person I told this. And I even planned a double date for U-Ritika and Me and my boyfriend.” Anushka and Virat were hardly controlling their laugh.
“Shitt. Did you tell him about this date plan also?” Rohit asked.
“Yes Ro. He needs to know.” Anushka continued.
“But why? You shouldn't have told him. Why does he need to know?”
“Because, he'll be joining us too”
“ Why? Why will he join?” Rohit was completely confused and Virat and Anushka were having great time pranking him. But finally, Anushka decided to disclose and not trouble him more.
“Because, He is the one who will now accompany me for the date” As Anushka said, Ro was completely shocked. He couldn't understand anything. Before he could have even asked a question, he heard Anushka's laugh along with a man's laugh which he recognised in a second. Vee.
“What the hell is going on? What do you mean, Anu? And Isn't this Virat with you? What's happening? I'll go crazy, please tell me” Ro shouted.
“Yes stupid. It's me.” Virat said laughing.
“Clear my confusion guys. I don't know what's happening. Why are you so happy Virat? And what are guys doing together? Please tell me otherwise I'll cry” Rohit said and he was sounding as he'd really cry.
“Okay, Okay. I'll tell you, Don't cry for god sake. Everything I told you was absolutely correct but the biggest truth is.....” Anushka created suspense.
“What's it Anu?” Rohit asked half heartedly as he was upset with the first sentence only.
“The revelation is that the boy is none other than your friend... Mr Virat Kohli” Anushka said and Rohit literally screamed after hearing her. He couldn't believe what he just heard.
“Are you serious? Virat and you... You and Virat.. I mean... ” Rohit was at loss of words with happiness.
“Yes idiot, it's true. We both are in a relationship.” Virat said. Rohit was still yelling in happiness.
“Thank god. I m so happy for you both. My best friend is now my brother in law too... And my bro is my sister in law now.. I will die out of happiness guys” Rohit expressed and Virat and Anushka looked at each other and smiled.
“Vse to, I should kill you guys for pranking me but the news you gave me is mind blowing so I am forgiving you.” Rohit said and Virat-Anushka laughed.
“Accha but this double date plan.. we should actually plan something like this now” Rohit suggested.
“Ya, for sure... But after IPL.” Virat replied.
“Okay guys, now go and enjoy your day and let me talk to my girlfriend also.. byee.. see you soon” Rohit said and they finally hung up the call and Virat drove the car to Anushka's home.They reached and Anushka stepped out of the car, Virat also got down. He held her hand and they both looked into each other's eyes.
“I can't believe it's reality. You have literally turned my reality better than my dreams” Virat said.
“I still remember meeting you on the first day, I never in my wildest dream thought that we'll be standing here, thanking God for making us meet each other. I never thought I'll be able to believe or trust someone. But, you have made it possible, Vee. I love you.” Anushka said to Virat.
“This is just the beginning Nushkie. We have fallen in love, we will grow and rise in love and hopefully will succeed in love. But Whatever we achieve or experience in this relationship, we will always tresure our friendship. That's something invaluable for me and I can't let that go.” Virat said
“We will never let that happen, Vee” Anushka said and Virat gently kissed Anushka's forehead and then they touched their foreheads and stood there.
“These forehead kisses are our thing” Anushka said.
“They'll always be” Virat replied and went back to his car.
That's how they started their journey of forever and beyond.
