It's been so long! Literally had to read the story a few times to remember what my own plot was 😂 I hope I still have some interested readers... I do someday want to go through and edit/change the earlier chapters as I'm not totally happy with them, but for now I will just write from where I left off and make the rest of the book a bit better!
Enjoy!

It had been a few weeks and the routine was the same. Every day at lunch Rosalie would meet Niles in the library and they would play chess. Sometimes they'd do some work, usually the game because Niles did most of his work at home. Rosalie had even talked to the librarian so Niles could eat in there, the cafeteria was too loud for his taste and Rose noticed he wouldn't eat his lunch anymore because of it.
Right now they're sitting in an intense game, Rose had been making her brothers at home help her get better so the games wouldn't go by as fast. She still hadn't been able to beat him. Every time she makes a move she looks up at him, always to find him watching the board. She admires him, his beautiful eyes and his cute small smile, she wonders what he'd look like with a bigger smile on his face. She stares at his hair, it looks soft, she wonders what it would feel like.
"Rose? It is your turn again."Rose knew if she could blush she would. She awkwardly smiles, not that Nile's notices, and goes to make her move. In take about two more moves each for Niles to win and finish the game. Although she's competitive, she can never seem to be angry or upset at her loss. A door opening brings her attention to the front of the library, there's Edward with a stupid grin on his face. With a scowl Rose rolls her eyes and speaks, "I have to go now Niles, but I'll see you in class tomorrow okay?"
She gets a small nod in response and walks away to her irritating beyond belief brother. "Stop listening to my thoughts you insufferable mosquito." Although he tries to not show much emotion in public, Edward bursts into laughter at the insult. "And what are you? A tolerable one? We're all bloodsuckers Rosalie." She wished she could punch him and add a crack to his stupid smirking face.
"I just want some time with Niles and an opportunity to get to know him without being teased by you idiots. He doesn't like you guys either and I don't want him to be uncomfortable."
"Who told you he doesn't like us? From his thoughts and what Jesper can get from his emotions he favours us over everyone else in the school." Edward adds nonchalantly."What? What does he think of me? Does he like more more then you guys? Why does he like you guys? When do you talk to him-" Edward cuts off her ranting,
"He finds you confusing. He enjoys your company during lunch though. His thoughts are usually about school, or about feeling lonely. As for if he likes us, his favourite is definitely Jasper. Jasper keeps his distance, doesn't try to make eye contact, and is the most intelligent history partner Niles has had. He beats us all."
Rose can't decide if she's happy or not. If she's glad he has other people to interact with, or if she's jealous that he favours her brother. She responds with an emotionless hum and speeds up to join Alice and Caroline to walk to there class.

Niles just finished packing up his board, and sends a quick text to his mother letting her know his day has been fine so far. The conversations are the same everyday and he doesn't understand why, but his mom always enjoys texting. As he makes his way to history he thinks about yesterdays class and how he's excited to continue the lesson. He's also glad he was out beside Jasper.
He thinks Rose and Jasper, the twins he realizes, might be his very first friends.
He's never had friends, unless you count his mother or grandparents. He remembers trying to make them because everyone seemed to have so much fun playing together in the school yard, but he was never sure how to talk to them. He never understood the teasing, could never really be in on the jokes. He's glad to have made two friends, school is much less lonely with people you can sit with quietly, and not feel like you're missing out on the conversation. With Jasper, it's never about emotions or things Niles doesn't understand, it's always about history which he finds fascinating.
With Rose, it's just company. Niles has never loved being in the company of others because he's never fit in, with Rose he doesn't feel the need to. They sit quietly and play chess, or sometimes study. He doesn't feel confused, she doesn't say things that make him wonder what he's missing, if she says something and he doesn't get it, she can always tell and makes it clear.
He knows he's not the easiest to hangout with, he's never denied knowing that he misses social ques and jokes, but Rose always makes sure he knows exactly what's happening. The jokes are explained and he can enjoy them too, the social ques aren't assumed to be understood, they're explained.
Besides his mother Niles has never had people in his life who help him around the social situations he's always had trouble navigating. Now he has Rose, and Jasper, and the siblings that always stare at him he assumes too.
With all his thinking he walks into history happy and content. It brings a smile to Jaspers face, and he knows he will tease Rose about it later.

So nothing really happened this chapter, just some more explanation behind Niles new friendships! I don't know when I'll publish the next chapter, but please don't hold back letting me know how you like (or don't like) where I'm taking this book in the comments!
Don't forget to vote it's very motivating!
