Niles sat in the library the next day at lunch and Rosalie sat a few tables away keeping her eyes on him. She knew he didn't always enjoy the noise of the cafeteria and figured it would be more fun to just sit and observe him then sit with her family and sulk about the distance.
She couldn't really decide what to do next, she knew she needed him in her life but she didn't know how he could be. She would never force a human to be in this world of blood and death and irresistible hunger, but how could she live without him? She was interrupted from her thoughts when she heard the chair across from her moving and she saw Niles sitting in it.
"Hello Rosalie, you haven't moved past that page in 7 minutes, do you need help with your studies? I can recommend a great tutor if you would like." After Niles was finished Rosalie just started at him eyes wide, she's never heard him speak to someone so freely like that and couldn't help but feel pride that he was comfortable enough to come up to her like that.
"No I'm fine, I was just distracted." Rosalie knew that if she could blush she would.
"75% of all students who fail classes blame it on distractions in their lives, I would recommend limiting them to ensure your grades don't slip and negatively affect your academics." He was still only looking down at her shoulder but Rosalie was beaming with pride that she got him talking for so long, even if it was just because he worried about her grades.
"Thank you Niles, I will definitely take your advice. I'm bored right now and don't think I will be able to refocus, how about we take a study break together?" Rosalie was nervous for his response and knew if she had a beating one, her heart would be going crazy in her chest.

Nile took a second to seemingly think about it before he spoke, "do you enjoy chess?" Before Rosalie could respond he had already pulled out a board and the pieces and started to set up a game.

Later that day Rosalie sat at home think of her interactions with Niles, she had even tried but still lost to over 5 fast games against her human mate and she was blown away by his intelligence and skill in the game. She smiles when thinking of all the silence that was disturbed every few seconds by Niles stating a fact about chess and the history of the game, as well as a few random facts about different topics.
