I crouched down behind the overflowing rubbish bin and nearly slipped on a chocolate wrapper that lay on the ground amongst the other rubbish items that littered the ground. I inwardly cursed as the tall figure stopped and peered around as I held my breath. The figure hoisted their ridiculously large gun up onto their shoulder before walking off while whistling a ridiculously out of tune song.
I took a deep breath...
and instantly regretted it as the foul stench of the alley assaulted my nose. I stood and winced at the cramp in my leg, I took a more shallow breath through my mouth before pushing past the aches and pains and quietly jogged away.I wiped the sweat off my brow as I once again hid, this time behind a tree. I was truly stupid to come here, and during the day as well, even if it was very early. I peered past the tree and glanced around the old and-thankfully-empty plaza, if I was caught I might've died from shame before I died of being shot. Before I could truly regret coming here or turn back I darted to another closer tree and squinted up at the bright electronic board.
I was still ahead, as always, and I had been here for 4 months 7 days 49 minutes and 64 seconds exactly. 65 seconds now. Disappointed, I turned to the other board and noticed that Sir Omaren was now in the lead with a total of 338 kills. I shook my head my mind still on the first leaderboard, I knew it was impossible for me to hope someone else was 1st, after all, it was based on who had been there the longest and for someone to beat me I would have to die. Still, to be 1st made me more of an exciting hunt, and more of a target.
I turned away and was about to leave when something caught my eye. Tom dropped off the leaderboard, and Madame Lilith crept up to 337 kills.
