It was now 9 pm and Stokekey and I were going down the highway on our way home from the city, music was playing and I was having a good time."Thank you Stokes" I said leaning my head on the headrest. "No problem" he smiled looking my way, I gave him a smile in return before he turned his head back to the road. "I'm glad we met not gonna lie, it's been fun hanging out with you. You're not a bad person I just wish Sy could see that"  I looked at him to see his expression slightly change.

"I mean have you had bad experiences before?" he asked quickly looking at me before at the road. "Yeah one or two," I said not wanting to remember them. "We'll Maybe Symere just wants to be extra careful, you guys are best friends aren't you?" he raised an eyebrow. "Yeah, we always will be best friends. but I don't know" I shrugged.

"maybe think about it from his point of view, if you saw Symere get hurt twice because of the same reason wouldn't you be a little more protective?" I thought about the scenario and honestly, he was right, if I saw Sy go through the same thing more than once I'd be even more protective . "yeah, you're right. I'll text him when I get home".  "Thanks, Stokes, you're a lot of help".

"I try to be", I felt his hand rest on top of mine causing me to internally smile, his hand was warm like the first time he led me to his car and the rings were still cold. I slightly squeezed his hand causing him to rub mine with his thumb. "I'm glad we met too, I enjoy spending my time with you, you make it interesting" he spoke. "awe, that means a lot" I chuckled.

I heard his stomach growl and we both laughed. "Do you want something to eat?" He asked signaling to merge lanes. "Hell yeah" I smiled. He merged into the lane to exit to get some food, I looked at the sign to see they offered Burger King, Popeyes, McDonald's, Wendy's, Subway, and Starbucks. "Can we get Popeyes?" I said pointing at the sign. He nodded his head as the song switched from "Break From Toronto " to " Magnolia", He drove around looking for a parking spot.

9:47 PM

I yawned as we sped down the highway. "I think I'm gonna buy a guitar, I've been wanting one since I was like 13," I said looking at some guitars on my phone. " You should get it," he said glancing at me. " Yeah, probably for my birthday, or Christmas" I shrugged. "You never told me your birthday" he spoke. "It's January 23, what about you?" I replied not looking up. "April 18" I nodded my head storing that information in the back of my head.

"Damn your birthday is kinda close," he said in shock. "Not it's only in 3 months, we still have time," I said turning off my phone. "I usually plan my birthday 2-3 months in advance so I can decide what I wanna do," he said stopping at a red light. "I mean you can't do shit with a winter birthday" I looked at him. "I mean you could go to an indoor waterpark?" he looked back at me.

"What am I? 10?" I furrowed my eyebrows. "It's just a suggestion" he shrugged "Usually it's just me and Symere watching a movie and having a sleepover," I said still looking at him. "You don't have any other friends?" he asked sounding pretty curious. "Nope, it's just me and Sy, until we die you know? Just us til the end" I said glancing down at my phone.

It always just been me and Sy, since the sandbox you know? I feel bad for yelling at him. I know he means well and that he was just looking out for me. "It sounds like you guys go way back" he chuckled. " Yeah, since diapers in the sandbox" he had a slight look of sadness on his face, it was subtle but I could tell the difference. "I don't have any friends like that" he relaxed into his seat a bit more.

"What do you mean?" I questioned, I mean Stokeley is the best QB and he's the star basketball player, and the mayor's son, who wouldn't wanna be friends with him? "You know as the Star athlete of the school you'd think I have tons of friends right?, Nah. I'm just popular, My teammates aren't my friends, we just hang out in the field and the locker room but as soon as we step out it's like we're strangers, no one knows me they just know of me" he looked at me before paying attention to the road.

"So what do you do for your birthday then?" I questioned. "Honestly I just get some text from a few teammates and then my parents and that's about it, my dad is usually on a business trip or doing some mayor shit, and my mom...I don't even know" he shrugged. "Damn, I'm sorry" I patted his shoulder. "It's alright I never stress over it " he looked at me. I started thinking about my life if Sy had never shown up, it would probably have been so boring.

"So how'd you & Symere meet?" he asked switching the topic. "Well my mom went to go get her hair done at her friend's crib and her friend had a kid who was obviously Symere and we ended up being great friends, He was there for me through my emo & awkward phase he's my dawg," I said slouching in my chair. "That's nice how you guys are still friends after all these years" he slightly smiled.

"Yeah, that's my nigga" I smiled too, "I had one friend, his name was Sid Long story short he was a fake friend and it didn't end well at all" he rolled his eyes. "Sometimes it's like that" I shrugged.

............

- "You know, my parents aren't home seh," he said holding me by my waist.

- "Yeah?" I smiled.

- "Yeah"
