The next day, Remus wakes up to find himself alone in the dormitory. Alone and hungover. Very, very hungover.

He groans, sitting up. "Fuck," he mutters, clutching his head.

So much for having fun.

It's only after he comes back from the shower that he notices a couple of painkillers next to his bed. He swallows them down with the glass of water left next to them and makes his way downstairs.

He scans the common room in search for his friends. Sure enough, he finds them.

Peter is asleep (of course) on a couch next to the fire, and James is folding a piece of paper. It's been a couple of weeks since he got into origami. Remus didn't think he'd stick to it for so long, but he seems to quite like it.

And then... Sirius.

He's knelt on the floor, hunched over a large white cloth. There's a bucket of red paint next to him. And he's holding a paintbrush.

"Hey, Moons," James waves him over.

Remus sits down next to him. "Morning," he sighs, leaning back. "Good morning," James grins.

And Remus loves him, he really does, but God, it's too early.

And why isn't Sirius looking up?

"Morning," Remus says again, sliding off the chair to sit on the floor in front of Sirius.

Sirius doesn't reply.

"Sirius," Remus tries again.

Sirius looks up.

"Morning," Remus tries to catch his gaze, but he doesn't look at Remus' eyes.

"Morning," He says softly, then goes back to work.

Remus watches him for a minute.

"What are you doing?" He ventures.

Sirius shrugs. "We need to announce James and Lily getting together,"

Yes, of course they do.

"How do I help?"

Sirius shrugs again.

He still hasn't looked at Remus.

Remus glances at James, hoping he'd do... Remus doesn't know what exactly, but something to get Sirius back to normal. He finds James watching them anyway, eyebrows furrowed. Remus catches his gaze, and he raises his eyebrows at Remus. A gesture that reads your fault, not mine.

"Hey," Remus decides to give it another go. "I wanna help,"

Sirius looks in Remus' general direction. "I don't need help," he says quietly. "You should get some breakfast,"

Remus bites his lip. "Okay," he says, and looks at James once more. James can only shrug.

"Take Prongs with you," Sirius says, still not looking at James. "I'll just... stay here,"

"Have you eaten?" Remus asks.

"We did," James hops to his feet. "Come on, Moons. Let's get you some food."

Remus gives Sirius' lowered face one last look before following James out of the Tower.

"So..." Remus clears his throat.

"Yeah," James mutters.

"Yeah," Remus sighs.

They walk the rest of the way in silence.

It takes about five minutes of Remus quietly eating for James to finally give in and talk.

"What are you gonna do now?" He asks, dunking a chocolate biscuit in his tea.
