She was killed.
During the final round, Gi-hun and Sae-byeok teamed up against Sang-woo. She was still so focused on processing what happened not even a day before.
Flashback
Sae-byeok and Gi-hun were frantically banging on the door, hoping to catch the attention of the guards. The room was dark so neither of them noticed Sang-woo.
When the doors opened, Sae-byeok grabbed the guard's arm "Please! Help her, she's going to die!"
Gi-hun was begging the other guards. Instead of answering, they pushed past the pair. To their horror, they were killing a casket.
Sae-byeok's eyes went wide as well as Gi-hun's. Sae-byeok ignored Gi-hun's calls as she ran over to Y/n, not even noticing Sang-woo standing to the side covered in blood, with a knife in his hand.
She shook Y/n, tears falling from her eyes. The guards pointed guns at them all, and tried to peel Sae-byeok off the dead body.
Gi-hun went to attack Sang-woo for killing Y/n. The daughter he never had. The one person who helped him through everything. She was now gone.
Forever.
The guards swiftly pushed Gi-hun to the ground, restraining him and finally got Sae-byeok off the body.
They blamed themselves. If they just stayed with her.
~~~~~
After that, Sae-byeok was out of it. Completely ignoring everything around her and just continued to think about Y/n.
Her Y/n.
Which is the cause of everything. Sae-byeok was too distracted in her own thoughts to notice Sang-woo, coming at her with a knife.
All she felt was the cold metal piercing her heart before she felt numb. She faintly heard the sounds of Gi-hun's cries but then she heard nothing.
It was dark.
*****
As Sae-byeok started gaining consciousness, she heard laughing.
Wasn't she dead though?
Groaning, she sat up from her lying position. Looking down, she saw no wound. No sign of injury, which caused her to furrow her eyebrows in both fear and confusion.
As her sight became more clear, she was in a room, laying on a bed, with bright lights shining in through the curtains.
"You know, I didn't expect to see you so soon." The voice rang through Sae-byeok's ears. A very familiar voice.
She quickly turns her head to see a h/c girl. "Y/n...?"
"Hello love." The girl smiled at Sae-byeok, seeing tears form in her eyes.
"B-but... I saw you die. Your blood was everywhere... how..." Sae-byeok could barely form a sentence.
"I did... you did too." Y/n answered calmly, hoping it would bring a sense of calmness to the girl in front of her.
It was finally processed in Sae-byeok's mind.
They were both dead...
A sob came from Sae-byeok's mouth, as she threw herself on Y/n. She cried into her shirt, muttering apologies frantically.
Y/n stroked her hair, and slowly rocked her. She whispered back, 'It's okay... It's okay...'
Once she finally calmed down, Sae-byeok asked the question Y/n was waiting for.
"Where are we?"
Standing, Y/n grabs ahold of Sae-byeok's hand, tugging her to a now visible door. "You'll see."
As they open the door, light shines into the room as they walk through it. Once Sae-byeok's eyes focus on the surroundings, she sees people. Familiar people.
"Well, I see you didn't make it out... alive." Turning to the side, Ji-yeong was standing next to Nico. "So much for protecting each other." Nico scoffed at his sister and the girl next to her.
Sae-byeok smiled and turned to Y/n
"Turns out, when you die, you come here... I guess? So it's not all bad."
Sae-byeok pulled Y/n in and kissed her, surprising her. When she pulled away, her eyes were wide and face was slightly pink.
Sae-byeok was smiling before it faded slightly, causing Y/n to become confused. "What's wrong?"
"My brother... I can't see him."
Y/n looked at Nico and nodded. He handed something to her and Y/n gave it to Sae-byeok.
"What's this?" She looked at it and it seemed to be some sort of globe.
"You can watch over people with it! I watch over my wife and son!" Sae-byeok looked up and saw Ali holding a similar one. "I came to say, it's almost time for the fire!"
Y/n's smile grew and she tugged Sae-byeok over.
*****
The sun began to set, and the main light source was from the bonfire. All night, everyone talked, laughed, and had a great time. Sae-byeok got to meet more people and even reunited with her grandmother and brother.
Things couldn't be better.
Ji-yeong and Nico watched the couple from afar. "You owe me."
Nico looked at the small girl confused. "You owe me. I told you once Sae-byeok got here, they wouldn't spend a second apart." This caused Nico to chuckle because she was completely right.
Y/n and Sae-byeok sat on a bench, enjoying the silence before Sae-byeok broke it. "I love you."
"I love you too. Can you promise me something?" Y/n asked her and Sae-byeok nodded. "Of course."
"Please never let me go."
