~Mask pov~
First, she holds my hand. Then she basically asks me to kiss her, then she's holding BOTH of my hands. I don't know what's up with her today, but she's in a flirtatious mood, and I don't like it.
It makes me wonder, why did she want to hang out today? From what I've heard she usually hangs out with Army. Unless he's consumed with something else. To be honest, I've liked her for a while, but she's never really hinted that she likes me back, until now.
Either she was high off the fumes of cookies, or she likes me. The first option is probably the truest. Although I do wish she felt the same, it would be nice just to have somebody...care about me. I know I know, very strange for Mr pessimist. (I've grown to love that nickname she calls me so much, you have no idea how much my heart flutters when I hear her call me that.)
Good thing I wear my mask whenever I'm around her, otherwise I'd be screwed. She has no idea how cyan my face turns when I'm with her. I honestly never expected much for my love life ever since I started turfing, I was feared, not loved like Gloves or Aloha. It was a perfect balance I couldn't maintain.
And of all days she wants to hang out, it's Squidmas the single worst day of the year. As if the joy around me all day wasn't bad enough. My Ultra Athiest parents decided it would be a great idea to expose me to the world at such a young age. Every holiday, ruined. Any time a bring up a holiday? "AcTuAlLy iT hAs RacIsT oRiGinS" They never let me enjoy my childhood, and it sucked ass.
No happy Squidmas memories, just a regular day of my parents pointing out everything "wrong" with society. Two realists and a pessimist in the making was a great family dynamic (Not really) I remember being around 5 years old and asking to watch a Splatfest. Denied, since everyone "worshipped" the fax machine, since it was "religious"
I don't know why they wouldn't let me enjoy my childhood. Good thing I booked it outta there as soon as I could access my kid form. There are some things that make me happy, like playing turf and ranked with the Cyan team, my second family. The singular other thing was Y/n. I don't know why, I'm just drawn to her.
Is it her neverending optimism? Her sarcastic quips? Her "Move or become the dirt I walk on" attitude? Her amazing battle skills? Was it physical attraction? Maybe a combination, not even I know.
~Your pov~
"Mask? Are you okay? You spaced for a sec." You stare into your friend's eyes. Sure it was normal to space out, but it wasn't like him to be away for so long. "Oh sorryyyy" He faces back towards you. "Do you wanna leave or something?" You two had been there for a few hours, messing around in the skating rink. It was nearing nighttime, perfect. "Yeaaah" He takes off his skates and hangs them up on the rack, you follow soon after.
"So where do you wanna go?" You had two hours left, two hours to win over the man of your dreams unless you chickened out. "Wanna go shopping? I wanna get something for Arowana mall" You suggest. "What fun is shopping when I just sit there and wait for youuu?" Mask crosses his arms defiantly. "I heard that a new smash bro's game is out today, might be sold out though...better hurry!"
Mask runs past you and towards Arowana mall, leaving you in his dust.
"Hey! Wait up!" You attempt to catch up, but end up losing him at the mall's entrance. You were never really good with navigating this huge shopping center on your own, it was definitely an intimidating task. You walk along the edges of the mall, hoping to find the video game place or whatever it was called.
You quickly find it, Mask was already engrossed with testing out the new game and such, so you decided not to bother him. You make your way towards the clothing store. It was lit up with strings of lights, flashing different colors. You sift through the clothing racks, before finally finding a comfy-looking shirt. You weren't going to use it in battles, but most of your gear that you wore around the house had a shit ton of run speed anyway, so it wasn't a big deal.
You paid for your shirt and left the small store. The sky was beginning to darken, planets and stars dotted the sky, like a pattern on a blanket. You made your way to the game store, finding Mask, who was walking out with a few bags. "Perfect timing!" You wave to him to grab his attention.
Mask turned his head in surprise before running over to you. "I wanted to show you something!" You grab his hands, your grip much firmer than last time. You drag him through the mall and into the square. "W-whereee are we goooing?" Mask questions, concerned. "The square!" Mask groans, he had been complaining all day about the square, that was the last place he wanted to be.
You finally made it to the square, Pearl and Marina were just about to start the "Squidmas Tree lighting count off" As they called it. You pulled him closer to you, you both stood in front of the tree, catching your breath.
The countdown had begun.
"10!"
"Mask, I've uh..."
"9!"
"I've been wanting to tell you something..."
"8!"
"Spit it ouuut then"
"7!"
"Uhm"
"6!"
"Uhm? Thaaat's it?"
"5!""N-no, it's just hard to get out."
"4!"
"Is it that big ooof a deaaaaal?"
"3!"
"Well yeah kinda..."
"2!"
"Ah, screw it"
You lift his mask up and lock your lips with his, slightly tilting your head up to accommodate for his height. Surprisingly, he kissed back.
"1!"
The tree lit up in front of you both, you pulled away down before turning a bright shade of I/c. "S-sorry I didn't mean-" Your chin was aggressively pulled up, and a warm pair of lips met yours. Just as soon as it happened, Mask pulled away and quickly let down his Mask. "That was niceee" He holds your hands, and watch as the Squidmas night festivities began.
Little did you know, a certain brother was watching this whole thing go down.
