The Map

"How did word even get out so quickly?", Nic thought to himself.

" Sir I'm going to have to ask you to come with me", the woman responds, putting her stuff on a table. Nic stands up slowly, pushing the chair under the table.

"You do know that is clearly not me, right?", Nic replies, smirking. The woman turns around, all while Nic quickly jumps into an oncoming crowd. The woman turns back, seeing that Nic disappeared.

" Where did...? Shoot...", she mumbles to herself. She begins to make her way to a rotary phone, rapidly trying to contact a number. Nic escapes from the crowd, and eventually finds Elle in the science section of the library, on the first floor.

"So uhhh, hi Elle", he nervously states.

" Hi....", she awkwardly smiles, flipping through the pages of a book.

"Have you looked up the title yet?", she asks him.

" Well..... You see...", Nic hesitated to answer, until the same woman speaks into an intercom, echoing throughout the whole library.

"Security needed at computer area, keep a lookout for a high school boy that matches the description of the wanted poster", she announces. Elle's expression then turned serious, while Nic paces a little.

" What did you do?"

"Wha- I didn't do anything! There was this librarian...that just happen to look at a...wanted poster....of...me."

"NIC", she yells out loud at him.

" I don't even know how they got my face on the picture! ", he replies in a high pitched voice.

" Okay, help me look for this map, there are two other levels above us."

"I'll look on the second floor", he replies, rushing towards the stairs. A couple of minutes later, Nic runs to the science category, and carefully examines the S section.

" Annita Stacey, Williams Stacey, Boris R. Stacey, come on where is it." He rummages through every book, inspecting each page, in hopes of finding the map. After searching through what seemed like an endless amount of books, the map is no where to be found, thus leading to Nic making his way to the third floor.

"Oh please be here", he says to himself exhausted, trying to catch his breath. Five books later, Nic stumbles across a book titled " Dimensions and Other Worlds".

"This looks promising." Nic overturns the book, shaking it rapidly, until a folded sheet of paper comes falling out. He gasps, and hurries to collect the map.

"Oh thank you Gladys H. Stacey", he sighs in relief. He turns around, and leans on the edge of the wooden rails.

" Elle!", he shouts out, looking below to the first floor. He waves the map to her, when all of a sudden, he points away from her, seeing three officers heading towards her. Elle turns around, quickly glancing over to then, she bolts off to her right. Nic was about to go down the stairwell, until four more officers come charging up the steps. He runs off to the end of the aisle, now cornered from the oncoming officers, and no other escape route.

"Stop right there!", one of the men order him, holding a taser stick. Without hesitation, Nic jumps over the rail, and quickly plummets. As he continues to fall a short way, he catches himself onto the railing of the second floor, straining to hold on. He takes a deep breath, and let's go of the wooden bars. Finally, he lands on the ground a bit hard, scaring the people around him. He makes his way over to see the ground level of the library, watching as Elle runs towards a fire escape, with the men still in pursuit of her. As she approaches the door, Nic suddenly jumps down behind her, pushing the guards back and knocking them down. They finally escape through the exit, and Nic blocks the lock hole with a rusty pole.
