Wrapping his arms around the shorter girl, he engulfed her in an intimate hug

Wrapping his arms around the shorter girl, he engulfed her in an intimate hug. No words could come out of his mouth for him to comfort her. All he did was embrace her and sigh. He too was pondering the same but he would shake those pessimistic thoughts away.

"Don't say that..."

At last, although it was only three words, he was able to say something. It was better than keeping tight-lipped. Neither of them could complain because they had let their genuine feelings out. It was as if falling in love was a sin.

Why has the world ended up like this?

"Let's not talk about this anymore," Yun morosely suggested after realizing that the mood was broken for the night. Nonetheless, that one realization made her tense. All she wanted was reassurance, but it would be unattainable considering that no one truly knows their soulmate.

Canceling their night play, the two headed back to the amenity of Haechan's house. During their walk back, they held hands without uttering a single word. The single fear that they shared had frightened them both.

As usual, Yun took the bathroom to change while Haechan changed in his bedroom.

"Are you done now, Haechan?"

"Yeah, you can go out now."

Glimpsing inside before going in, she spotted Haechan lying on the bed. He was on his phone, endlessly scrolling to pass time. It was a natural sight for the two of them at this point. It felt like they actually lived together for a lengthy period.

"I'm going to sleep with Hyun tonight," Yun brought up as she headed towards the door. After having that small argument with Haechan earlier that day, Haechan had brought home Hyun with him. She didn't know the reason why as he didn't say anything. "Why'd you bring your little brother home? I thought you didn't like a third wheel?"

"I was hoping to get praises and plus points but you ended up staying with my little brother for the night," Haechan, who was sulking, grumbled. "Go babysit my brother then."

In reality, Haechan purely wanted to spend the last few days with Yun selfishly. He couldn't mention it because they had already escaped the topic earlier. The sole idea that came into his mind was to sulk and act like a little kid to convince her.

"You're a reliable person but sulks too much," Yun remarked and laid her back against the door. Her arms were folded while her eyes were fixated on Haechan. "I made a promise back then with Hyun that I would sleep with him and read a bedtime story. I'll spend the rest of my nights with you, okay?"

A faint smile emerged on Haechan's face as he readied himself to sleep. He wanted the next few nights to come, but not the day that starts the new year. Everything that was on his mind was related to Yun and he felt even more uneasy as the days passed.

"Goodnight, Yunnie."

"Goodnight, Chan."
