The recent weeks have been incredible! It's surreal to think I'm in a relationship now. Harry is fantastic. He treats me like royalty, with such gentle care, as though I'm fragile. He's fully aware of my past and knows exactly how to treat me right.
I'm snapped out of my thoughts when the English teacher calls out my name. "Mia?" she prompts, snapping me back to attention. "Could you provide an answer to this question?"
"Sorry, could you please repeat the question?" I ask apologetically.
She sighs before repeating, "Can you explain the significance of the setting in the novel we've been studying and how it contributes to the overall theme?"
"The setting of the novel plays a crucial role in shaping the characters' experiences and decisions. For instance, the oppressive cityscape mirrors Haida's internal struggles with isolation and alienation. Additionally, the rural backdrop serves as a stark contrast, highlighting themes of nostalgia and the search for authenticity. Overall, the setting acts as more than just a backdrop; it's a dynamic force that deeply impacts the narrative's themes and character development." I answered her question confidently. I sat down on my seat as the teacher continued asking questions to other students.
"I wonder where Harry is...He is never late for a class. Is he going to miss school today or something? He could have told me about it." I thought as my gaze crossed paths with Zayn's. He offered me a smile, but I couldn't bring myself to return it. Despite my efforts to concentrate on the lesson, my mind incessantly drifted back to thoughts of Harry.
"The lecture ended soon." I heard a girl behind me mention it to her friend. She was right. The teacher had let us go 10 minutes earlier.
I had enough time before my next class, so I sat near the ground and texted Harry, "Where are you?"
"Mia?" I heard someone behind me.
"Oh my god, fuck, Zayn. You scared me." I screamed at him.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. I wanna show you something."
"Not now, Zayn. Please leave me alone." I told him.
"Mia, I know you don't think of me as your friend anymore, but really, I want what is best for you. So could you please stop acting like a brat and come with me so I can show you what I'm trying to show you!?"
"Alright, fine. But if it's some regular shit that you usually do, I'm never forgiving you."
"Alright," He said, "Follow me."
He started walking ahead as I followed him. Mia, why are you doing this? I thought, but I trust Zayn more than I have trusted anyone. He stopped in front of the Janitor's room.
"Why are we here?" I asked him.
"Take a look inside." He said as I peeked inside through a small window. I saw a blonde kissing someone, but I couldn't make out who she was kissing. He somehow looked familiar, but I didn't get it.
"Who are they? Who is this blonde? Who is she kissing? Why are you showing this to me?" I asked him.
"Okay, stop with the questions." He said, "Let's go inside."
He turned the doorknob and entered the room. The couple was deeply engrossed in their embrace, oblivious to our presence. I gently tapped the shoulder of the blonde-haired girl, causing her to halt her passionate exchange with the guy and step aside. My gaze immediately locked onto the guy, and to my astonishment, it was Harry.
"Harry? What on earth? What are you doing here? With her?"
"Mia, I..."
"What explanation could there possibly be, Harry? How could you betray me like this? You assured me it was only me for you, and yet here you are, cheating on me. I gave you everything. What did I do wrong? Where was I not enough that you had to cheat on me!?"
"Mia, I know what promises I made to you. You don't have to remind me of them."
"So that's how it was so easy for you to break them."
"I didn't want to break your heart. But, you're just so..."
"So?" I said.
"So much into yourself. You keep telling me how Zayn did you wrong. It's so fucking annoying. I was kinda getting over you, and then I met Taylor. She has been fantastic. She treats me so much better than you ever did. I had to have something with her. I was going to break up with you today, but you already found out."
I was on the verge of crying, I couldn't be more strong than I already have been. He said all those things about Taylor that I kept saying about Harry. My chest hurt so much.
"You know what? It's over. Don't you ever show your face to me? Or I don't think what I'd do to you." I said and ran out of the room towards my car. Zayn ran behind me, but I was fast enough.
"Zayn, just leave me alone. I trusted you, and I went in there. I don't have anything else to lose anymore. So, I hope you can leave me now."
"Mia, I didn't- I didn't mean for you to get hurt. I only want what's best for you. And I'm the best for you! If I had known you were into me then I would have never gotten together with Veronica. I'm sorry for what went wrong. I really am! Please give me another chance, Mia. I can't keep losing you."
"Zayn, you have already lost me. So stop it and go home." I said and left for my house. I can't keep up with this shit that people keep putting down on me.
As soon as I reached my house, I dialed my mum.
"Mia, is something wrong?"
"Mum, I-" I tried to speak, but I was so broken.
"Mia, darling? Why are you crying? What happened?"
"Mum, I wanna see you. I want you to come home, please."
"Mia, baby. You know we can't. But what if you come down here?" She said.
"Alright. Ask Daddy to book tickets for me. I don't wanna stay here alone anymore."
