WELCOME TO THE UNKNOWN

Here I was in the middle of getting ready to start my day, finally hopping out of the shower and brushing my wet hair back. As I'm getting prepared to leave my apartment I get dressed and let my hair air dry. I had a few things I need to get from the administration office before I could start my classes in the next few days. I grab my regular tote bag put my wallet, keys, and my journal in the bag.

Walking out of my room I drop my bag on the couch and head into the kitchen. I was going to put the fancy coffee maker mom got me to work. After a few struggles of trying to get the machine to start, I finally get myself some coffee.

Hearing my phone ring I set my coffee on the table and go grab my phone.

"Aubrey Speaking"

"Hey dear, I was calling to check up on you? How's your morning going?" my mother said on the other end of the phone.

My parents left last night after we ate at the diner it was strange not being around them. It was something I was willing to get used to, something I had to get used to. As much as they wanted to stay for the weekend I knew it wasn't a good idea. Just because my mother owns her own business doesn't mean she didn't have things to take care of. As for my dad being an accountant and boss to his and his best friend's business, I knew he had a lot of things to take care of.

"I'm doing well mom I'm getting ready to head out in a few minutes have some things to take care of."

"That's good, be safe okay? If anything happens you shoot me a text or call me" she says.

"Yes I definitely will, love you tell dad I said hey"

"I will love you to bee"

I hang the phone up finished the rest of my coffee and got to my feet. My hair was still damp so I quickly go into the bathroom to blow-dry my hair. After I'm done I put my converse on grab my bag and head out the door.

Once I locked my place up I headed to the parking lot, campus was approximately 8 minutes away from my apartment. I could walk if I wanted to but I was willing to take my best chances and drive. It takes me a few minutes to find the student parking, for a Saturday the campus had a lot of students around. Maybe it was because the change of weather today was much warmer than yesterday.

I head into the student administration building finding the first help desk that was unoccupied.

"Hi, I'm here for my schedule and book," I say speaking to the lady behind the clear glass.

"Can I get your first and last name?" she says

"Aubrey Fobbs"

"Can I see your ID, please?" she asks

"Yes," I say as I dig into my bag for my wallet pull my id out and hand it to her.

"Thank you, give me a few minutes."

I nodded at her after a few minutes passed she passed me my id back, I shoved it in my wallet. She slides over a piece of paper "here is your schedule, for your books you will go to the building next book and they should be able to help you with the books you're looking for." she says to me before offering to help who's next in line.

Thank you

I mouth and grab my paper making my way to the building next door. When I enter the building I see a girl struggling with multiple books in her hand.

Before I could think the idea of her books all falling to the floor it does. I walk up to her grabbing a few books helping her get them off the ground.

"I'm such a fool, I thought I could carry all that by myself," she says, grabbing the rest of her books.

I get up to face her and the face I see standing next to me is no other than the server at the diner from last night. Emily was her name.

"Hey I know you, you came into the diner yesterday the chicken delight burger, I'm Emily"

"Yeah, I'm Aubrey," I say.

"I would shake your hand but I don't want to risk the books falling again," she said.

"It's okay, do you need help carrying this," I ask her.

She nods her head "my car isn't far from here if you don't mind I could use the help" she asked.

"Lead the way," I say, walking beside her.

"I'm guessing you're new here? Transfer student maybe?" she asked me.

"It's my first year here I wish I was a transfer student," I say chuckling.

"Oh, so you just recently graduated high school?"

"No I graduated a year ago," I say as my thoughts drift off to that night, that unexpected day, the months in the hospital, and the nightmares. Anyone would have thought I graduated last year no one knew about my life.

"So you took like a year break that's super cool," she says as we approach her car.

"Yeah, it was" I agreed but it was far from the truth.

As we load her books into her car she thanks me and offers me if I needed help finding my books. I let her know that I can handle it knowing that she must be busy herself. She refused and insisted that she help me since I helped her.

It took us about 20 minutes to find all the books, I needed and we kind of got distracted half of the time. Speaking about her job and how the food there was amazing. She even offered to introduce me to a few of her friends later if I was down, I wasn't doing much so I agreed.

While we were fishing for the books I needed I found out that I'm taking 2 of the same classes that Emily will be taking during the semester. She called me a genius because as a freshman in college I happen to be taking second-year classes.

I wouldn't call myself a genius I just had current qualities I needed to achieve for the college to take me back.

"I park on the other side," I say as we leave the book store.

"Okay, ill text you remember come by the diner around 5 I don't work but a lot of my friends we meet up there," she tells me waving bye.

I wave back at her and watch as she heads into her car. I make my way to my car and head back to my apartment. As I make my way into my apartment I set all my books down on my couch

Grab my laptop from my bedroom and start checking for any emails that might have been sent by any of my professors. When I don't see any recent emails I start organizing all my school books. It takes me a few hours to get all my school things together. I won't have to look back at this until Monday morning.
