Strange Love [Kylo Ren AU]

Introduction

This story is a Kylo Ren knight AU set in a dystopian religious medieval period.

The background/structure of the story relies heavily on direct Star Wars references such as names, but who the characters are and their roles are individual to this story and don't necessarily reflect exactly who the characters in the Star Wars universe are.

You could read this story without seeing any Star Wars films, and it would all make sense.

Before you read any further, I want to clarify that although there is nothing extremely disturbing in this fic when it comes to romantic/sexual relationships, there are a lot of dark themes throughout in terms of violence and suspense. I will always list warnings at the beginning of each chapter and encourage you to reach out if you think that I missed something that could be potentially upsetting.

-Religious themes (though not based in any real-life faith, just my fictional Sith one)

(To clarify, the title is based on Lana Del Rey's unreleased song by the same name. I know there are a few songs with that title, and I just wanted to make that clear.)

This story is set in an unnamed year, in an alternate dystopian universe similar to the world we lived in during the middle ages. Since this world is not set in a universe that actually exists/existed (in fiction or not), it is important to go into this with an open mind and understanding that this is a fantasy story.

Years before the story began, the world was struck by famine, drought, and disease. Darth Plagueis stepped up and offered relief using his resources and wealth, only for the people who pledged their loyalty to the Sith and The Force.

Note: (In this story, the Force is not a physical power or ability like it is in the Star Wars universe, but instead a made-up concept created by the Sith to earn followers and keep them devoted).

Those who accepted 'The Force' into their life could get food, water, and shelter, but it came at a price. They were now obligated to follow the Code of the Sith. They had to complete daily rituals to prove their loyalty which included but were not limited to: prayers to the Force, blood sacrifices, and public acts of devotion.

Over the years, Darth Plagueis was able to take over the nation with his man-made concept of 'The Force.' He ruled over society as a tyrant, ensuring that everyone lived in fear and panic. Although the Sith sold themselves as saviors and a trustworthy religion, they were more so a cult that kept everyone in line and kept them on top, in control.

As the story begins, this world is currently ruled by Emperor Palpatine, Darth Plagueis's heir, head of the Sith Empire. Although there is an underground society that directly opposes the Sith, who call themselves the Jedi, their power can currently not compete with the Emperor.

Kylo Ren is The Empire's most trusted knight.
