For What it Is

Many things come and go, for it is the nature of how life works, for it is a constant thing that is known, even for when the universe had been forged, for even throughout all the worlds there are within the lives people go through, it was a cold, brutal, truth.

It was a natural state, to live, and to then die. To endlessly repeat this cycle that people have gone throughout ever since the beginning of their history, for the cycle that is known as Life, often comes to an end.

A simple fact, yet the truth is known and it is never changing for it, that Death comes for all. Regardless of someone, whethe they are rich, old, poor, or even young.

Some Deaths, happen sooner than expected, when their lives have yet to be fully bloomed to experience the joys of a the thing people obssess over.

That was the case with a young girl, who was watching the doctors work on someone while being in the hospital, the amount of people walking on through, coming and going to make sure it was all settled for it.

But it was if, as the other people who were crowding around the room didn't notice her there...

For her own mortal body had passed on, reality being a cold reminder of it all.

And yet, the young girl looked around the room, wondering for a moment about what else to do.

Only for a voice to speak up.

"Are you ready?" A voice had spoken up, making the young girl turn towards the source of it.

As she then turned, to meet someone looking at her with a rather blank expression, a hood covering his hair, yet his silver eyes were piercing, as he looked towards the young girl.

And yet, the man, no, it was a rather familiar face for others, and yet no one had noticed the man looking at the young girl in front of him, as he watched her with the same expression he had with the paper in his hand

And yet, the man, no, it was a rather familiar face for others, and yet no one had noticed the man looking at the young girl in front of him, as he watched her with the same expression he had with the paper in his hand.

As if they were nothing more than spirits in the summer breeze.

And so, the man had asked, the aura of Death around him evident, as it was something that was akin to the void, swallowing all the life there is, and yet, it wasn't unforgiving, almost as if this male had some sort of presence that was warm to him, as he looked at the girl.

"Are you ready?" "Death" had asked once again, his face was stoic, as if this was nothing new to him at this rate, but considering who he is, it wasn't.

"Y-Yes!" The young girl spoke nervously, since this was the first time she had met someone when as a spirit, in the event that she had gone through, it was weird, since she had only met the being who was walking in front of her a few times before.

"Let us go then." The Man had replied, turning on his heel.

And so, the duo began walking off, but as they passed by a field of flowers in front of the hospital, the young girl spoke.

"Sir...?" The girl spoke,

Stopping his tracks, the man turned around and then tilted his head, as the girl took it as a sign he was listening.

"Can you... grant my last wish then?" She had asked earnestly, before she went to go over to the window and began pointing out of it, a bed of many different flowers seen as she continued speaking, "I really love those blue flowers! I wanted to pick them but the doctor said I can't go outside because of my health. My last wish is to pick a flower before I leave." She pleaded, wanting to take one of those pretty little flowers with her to the afterlife.

The man, no, it was more accurate to say, the being looked at her. He then took something out, a pocket watch to be precise, from his own pocket to check the time, due to them being on a schedule of sorts, as he had spoken, answering her question, "You have 10 minutes."

"Yay! Let's go!" With that, the girl grabbed his cloak, "dragging" him with her. The two eventual reached a field as the girl knelt down, staring at the flowers with childlike happiness. As the Man looked at her once again, his empty, silver eyes watching her. He then spoke up, his voice empty, yet there was something about it that made him seem otherworldly.

"You seem so happy, even though I am picking you up today.." He spoke, trailing off at the fact she wasn't expecting her to be happy, it was the truth that the girl seemed relieved that he was picking her up.

"Well... you see..." She started, picking up a flower, particularly, a blue orchid as she looked at the ground, a sad smile covering her face as she explained to him about why she was happy, "My hospital bills are expensive. If I go with you, mom and dad don't have to work hard everyday to pay for them." She had said, picking up the flower as she gave a rather bright smile towards the being, who was staring at her with a almost sad expression in those tired, silver eyes he has.

She was just a young girl, cursed with a disease that was simply far too expensive to constantly let her live, the fact she was smiling at him, showed that she was still innocent. Untouched by the very curse that was life, and yet it was a blessing as well, in this cycle from it all. Yet the flower she picked was a sore reminder that made him realize a simple fact.

She was simply a young girl, who was unlucky in life, who was innocent. A young girl who hadn't bloomed into the life she was suppose to live, all for it to be struck down cruelessly.

And yet here he was, guiding her to where she could be at peace, even if it did leave a bitter taste in his mouth, he knew it, he hated it. But sometimes, he had to do it. For even if he could bring her back, the moment has already passed, and the fact the truth, the cold, harsh, truth was there.

That life and death, worked this way to have it all become the same cycle that is just the thing that always remained the same, no matter where he went, no matter what identity he took, no matter the time, no matter the universe he was in. It would always end the same way.

And yet, he knew to bring her to the place where she may rest, to be at peace until it is time.

The Being looked back, spotting the crying parents, the yells and sounds, the screams of asking for the person they had lost to come back, as they were both devastaed by the loss of the person they wanted to bring to this world. It was a harsh truth for them, and only for time shall pass, they shall be reunited in some way, shape, or form. He then turned on back, feeling his hand be gripped by the young girl who looked at him with expectant eyes.

Death looked down at her, with the same dull eyes he wears, as he had his eyes open to the abyss he had often held back and won. Yet he gave a small smile, before walking off with her, their steps in harmony of sorts.

"Sir? Can I ask one more thing?" The girl asked, the blue orchid in her free hand, as they were busy walking on off towards the unknown itself. Into the place where she can be at peace.

"What is it?" The being asked, deciding to listen to her one more time.

"I never had a friend before. Can I be your friend?" She asked earnestly, once more asking him with that same innocent smile.

".....Sure." He had replied, nodding as he decided another request from her would be fine, since it was ironic really. Having Death as your first friend was a thing in of itself.

Even as they walked off, he knew his job as Death would become like this evermore.

The path he took on this, for the title he had claimed as being Death, The Fool had known he was dealing with something he would end up regretting, even if his last name was in reference to a certain first killer from a book.

For What It is, He knew this job was something he would gladly bear.

For What It Is, and for Whatever it will be, Arno knew it.
