"Lana, sandali!"

Sinundan ako ng kan'yang boses hanggang sa hallway ng ospital. It squeezed through the door bago ko pa man ito tuluyang maisara sa likuran ko. Huminto ako sa tapat ng pinto, sinubukang pakalmahin ang lakas ng kabog ng dibdib ko. Trying my best to process every bit of information I've heard.

For a long time, I just stood there, listening to the sounds from the nurses' station down the hall, to smelling the clean antiseptic scent of the hospital, and tasting my own stupidity.

Carp had a child.

A child.

And he didn't even know it.

That fact made me run my hands over my face, lean against the wall, restoring the coolness after the sudden heat in the room.

Napa-inda ako nang mapagtanto ng husto ang sitwasyon. A child. With Nicholas' girlfriend.

Ngayon mas naiintindihan ko na kung bakit ganon na lamang ang pakikitungo sa kan'ya ni Nicholas pagkatapos ng matagal na panahon na hindi sila nagkita. Kahit pa kamuntikan ng bawian ng buhay sa gitna ng dagat ang kapatid. iI I were him, I would have the right to feel angry, too.

Nicholas seemed to come to tell his brother to man up, panagutan ang responsibilidad n'ya. Which meant what? Na hindi ako pwedeng pakasalan ni Carpian dahil kailangan niyang panagutan at pakasalan si Trish?

But if I read the conversation correctly, Nicholas was with Trish. They're together. How would they—

Ugh. Talk about family drama. It surely added fuel to the fire between the Azares brothers for pulling that proposal.

Well, now it didn't matter anymore. The whole fantasy of meeting Carpian's family had begun to disappear in my mind as I listened to them argue.

Mukhang tama nga si Nicholas. Carp acted impulsively when he proposed. I got that. Dahil masyado din akong naging impulsive sa pagpayag sa gusto niya. Which of course, was Carpian's superpower. Making me break my own rules. I only fooled myself, grasped on that little drop of hope that maybe. . .maybe he really meant to marry me.

Pareho dapat naming pasalamatan si Nicholas. He prevented us in making the situation worse. I could've stole a child's father and his responsibility with me.

I stalked down the corridor. Stupid, idiotic, a fool, bakit ko ba hinayaang mahulog ang loob ko sa lalaking hindi ko naman ganon kakilala. I should've known. I should've known better. In my gut feeling, I knew that the man had secrets, and I should have listened to my hunches.

I was about to jog away when I heard my name again. "Lana!"

The voice was lower, but familiar. Humarap ako para tignan kung sino iyon.

Nicholas strode down the hallway after me. "Lana, stop!"

Curiousity nailed me on my spot and waited for him to cope up.

Hinabol niya ang kaniyang hininga nang huminto siya sa harap ko. Then he ran his hands through his curly black hair. He has the Azares' looks, I'll give him that.
