It was a calm night in December. Snow fell heavy from the clouds outside, settling on the windowsill. Fairy lights were hung around the living room as Jack and Ryan sat on the floor by the table. Jack looked at the cards in his hand strategically.
"Got any 2's?" He asked, looking across the table at his brother. He felt a wet nose against his arm as Shay nudged him sleepily.
Ryan looked at his cards, "Nope, go fish." He smiled, "Got any 4's?" He asked. His head had a medium sized scar on it, he was getting slowly better. He hadn't had any nightmares in a few weeks, thank god.
Jack looked at his hand, then sighed. He handed Ryan his last four. "You're lucky that time."
Ryan chuckled, "I know." He smiled as he put down the pair of fours. "You have any 6's?"
Jack frowned, then glared at Ryan, exhaling frustratedly. He maintained eye contact as he slid the six card across the table.
Ryan took the six, two more cards left. "Got any Aces?" He said with a small smirk.
Jack stared at Ryan. He looked down at his cards, then back up. He tossed them up in the air, cards flying all over the table and the floor, and even on top of Shay. He stumbled around Ryan and flopped onto the couch with a defeated sigh. "...You win..."
Ryan laughed, "What can I say, I just have luck." He picked up the cards and put them back in the box. He pet Shay and sat down in a chair. He grabbed his laptop and opened up a song they were working on and started to produce. He felt..content.
8-bit 'game over' sounds played on the television in the apartment across the hall.
"Come on!" Twenty shouted, dropping his controller on the floor. "That's the twenty-first time in a row! When will I be good at it?"
Eighty leaned back into the couch, sipping his energy drink. "Galaga's tricky. It'll take some practice, dude. Keep at it."
Twenty shrugged. "I think I'm okay for now..."
Eighty tilted his head. "...Alright." He stood up and turned off the console, the TV shutting off with a staticky click. "Any ideas for dinner?"
Melrose was sat in the living room reading a book. He hummed softly as he took a sip of his tea. Him and Victor live on the same floor as Twenty and Eighty, and Jack and Ryan. He put down his book and looked out the window to see the heavy snowfall, it was honestly comforting. He took a soft breath in and out.
DT picked up his guitar, messing with the tuning pegs. "Alright, what's first on the agenda?"
Agnes fidgeted with her necklaces as she turned on her keyboard. "I don't really know, what were you guys thinking?"
Faye looked at them, "How about we practice our new song?" They said as they grabbed their drumsticks and sat behind the drums.
DT gave them a nod as he strummed his guitar. Agnes tapped a couple of keys to prep her hands.
Victor stared up at the university entrance nervously. He'd heard rumors of the prestigious Columbia University, but never in a thousand years did he think he could get in. It'd been quite the process to get admitted, but...now he stood at the doors, about to start his first day of classes. He was about to learn all the ins and outs of modern medicine. Finally, he could become a doctor again. He took a deep breath and stepped through the doors.
According to the schedule Ryan helped him print out, he was supposed to start his day on the second floor. He noticed a flight of stairs only a few yards away. He speed-walked toward them, completely unaware that one of his boots was untied.
