Ashwin watched Sivaangi inhaling a large whiff of solace in the night air and be mesmerized in the feel of it with closed eyes. The cool air breezed with mist and ocean smell danced her little curls around her shoulders.
Keeping every safety measures at bay, he mimicked her posture, leaning against the short balustrade on the deck supporting his forearm over it. Up close, the sounds of the waves crashing and competing was clearer, and so were his thoughts.
His thoughts about her!
As he tried to memorise her face thrown backwards with closed eyes trying to dip in the serenity of this silvery silent night, he thought, 'Maybe cruise wasn't a bad idea.'
It so happened that after their movie release, the crew suggested a cruise trip for a few days to celebrate the victory of their first movie and also a relaxation before they kick-start with the new commitments in their carriers.
Ashwin had some photoshoots and media-bytes lined up about his second movie release and was going to back-out. But went ahead anyhow for his love for the oceans and his movie team.
Liar! He was up for the plan the moment he got to know about her joining in, without reluctance with all her wish and will. Sivaangi managed to prepone all her recording, thanks to her music director's who were kind enough to understand her. All his excuses got stuck to his throat as he managed his planned schedule.
"Ma! Ivlo late night la inga enna pannitu iruka ne?"
With a soft smile, Sivaangi acknowledged his presence behind her.
"Somebody needed my attention Ashwineyyyy!" Her cryptic reply left him bemused. She has developed a new habit of taking with metaphors these days.
"Yaaru andha somebody?"
"Nan dhan!" She stated and returned to her staring at a distant point source of light that he assumed to be coming from the lighthouse.
He wanted to chuckle at her response. He thought for an extrovert like her who is surrounded with people 24×7, the concept of repairing and evolving in the company of self was a far from the understanding. However this girl proved him wrong.
She is just like a butterfly, like its more colours she has got more beautiful shades of her own!
He meekly clears his throat to beat the nervousness this girl brings to his otherwise confident persona. However the voice was too weak to break her trance.
"Ma!" This time more louder, that caught her attention.
"Have you heard about 'Happily ever after'?" He asked not meeting her eyes, but he was aware of her confused gaze on him.
So what if his heart was hammering against the sound of winds and waves, he is desperate to talk to her. Honestly it's been too long they had spent time ignoring their feelings for eachother, covering it behind the shield of friendship afraid of getting hurt.
"You mean the one that exists only in fairy tales and Korean dramas?" She asked back.
"You never knew, that point you are staring might also be your happily ever after!" He said expectantly, his pointed finger cutting through the pitch black of darkness spread ahead of them.
Sivaangi seemed to be thinking through his words for sometime.
"That actually makes sense, cause it's as far as reachable."
"Suththam! Enna ma ne enna mari pesura!" He scratched his hair frustrated, earning a chuckle from her.
"Seri, apo would you mind joining me on a trip to 'Happily ever after'?"
He finally let those words tumble down his mouth, that he had been wanting to ask her for months. He expected her to laugh at his unconventional way of asking such a significant question but she frowned, thinking deeply. May be she didn't understand what he had asked.
"And what if we couldn't make it still there?"
Her whispered insecurities conspired to take her emotions away with the wild winds, lest he made a move closer to her and held her hands, tenderly.
"We would try to reach a reachable alternative of it while we are in the journey," he took a pause and looked straight into her eyes, "defined by ours and not by the world definition."
Sivaangi frowned again. All the trolls and negative comments have definitely taken a toll on her mental health, even his. But Ashwin fervently hoped for a good answer from her.
"Un ishtam ma! En manasula irundhuchu solliten!"
The air was suddenly thick with more anticipation than the mist of the ocean.
"Ticket enga?" Sivaangi asked staring at the same point source of light.
"Huh?"
"Happily ever after ku poganum la! Where's my ticket to board-in?"
There her playfulness resurfaced, bringing along the adorable smile, from where all these started. Sheepishly he pulled out a box from his pocket and slipped a ring in her finger. "Un ticket!"
A silvery reflection of the shiny piece of jewellery fell over her face as she examined it in awe, but her face glimmered more with a tiny hope than her eyes held.
"Unga ticket, Chennai ponadhum kudukuren." She whispered and continued gently stroking the ring.
He slowly moved his face ahead targeting her lips while she leaned assuming his target to be cheek, making them bump their foreheads clumsily and awkwardly.
'How come they have the perfect first kiss in the movies and novels' both of them thought.
"Ila neenga kannathula dhan-" her words were left unsaid by the man himself taking her soft lips in his.
And at that moment she knew, a new journey has begun, their journey towards, "THEIR HAPPILY EVER AFTER!"
