Elijah

She's the best man.

These past few weeks have been the best weeks of my life. For the first time in a long time I finally feel like I have somebody I can trust.

Gia is the most beautiful and genuine woman I've ever met. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't kind of falling for her because I definitely was. She just has this thing about her, I can't quite put my finger on it yet but it's absolutely captivating. It's like everything she does puts me in a daze. Like the way she checks on me while I'm sleeping to make sure I'm not having nightmares, she thinks I don't know but I do. She checks every night, never fails, at around three or four in the morning, I can always hear her creek my door open and tiptoe to whatever side of the bed I'm laying my head on. She'll just stand there for a minute or two, making sure I'm okay, then she'll pull the cover over my shoulders or fluff my hair before leaving. It kind of makes me feel like a baby but I love it and look forward to it every night.

I'm snapped out of my thoughts by the sound of loud rock music coming from the living room. Confused, I quickly exit the shower and throw on the nearest clothes.

That can't be Gia, she doesn't listen to rock.

As I exit my room and enter the living room I'm greeted by the sight of Gia taking Guitar Hero a little too seriously.

"Oh I'm sorry Elijah, did I awaken you from your slumber?" she yells way too loud as she continues to play.

"I actually came in here to show you who the REAL Guitar Hero is," I yell back.

"Yeah right, we'll let the game be the judge of that. Grab a guitar mr.rockstar."

I grab the guitar off the stand, place the strap over my head and get into my rockstar stance as she picks through the song selection.

She has no idea what she's in for.

So It turns out that Gia is indeed the real Guitar Hero being that she absolutely demolished me 6 times, twice on the same song after I demanded a re-match due to cheating.

"I need water," I breathe out while leaning over the couch

"Aww the little baby's tired after getting his but whopped . It's okay mommy's got you," she laughs in a baby-like voice as she makes her way to the fridge.

"Okay okay you won, whatever. Just know that's the only time you'll ever have me out of breath like that, never again."

"Never say never Elijah, never say never."

She smiles as she slides the glass full of water across the island, I don't hesitate to chug it down.

"So I was thinking that we could go shopping for your suit sometime this week," she smiles.

I set the glass on the counter and hold my head down. I knew Gia was excited about me going to this event, that's why I agreed, but I'm still not comfortable going out in public with her. Not because I'm ashamed or anything, it's just that I know my dad has his people looking for me, especially after he seen me. I don't want to risk her getting hurt, I wouldn't be able to live knowing that she got hurt because of me.

"We can't just order a suit online or something?" I whisper while avoiding eye contact.

"I mean we can but I feel like it's better if we go get it in person. You know so we can see it with our own eyes and make sure you really like it. God forbid we order it online and you don't like it or it doesn't fit," she laughs.

"I'll be fine with it ordered online."

"I'm trying to tell you man, do you know how many things can go wrong."

"We'll be fine." I try to convince her.

"Let's just go get it in person. It'll be good for you to get out the house and-"

"Can you just order the damn suit online Gia," I snap.

I can see her eyes widen as she steps away from the island.

"Okay alright i'm sorry, I'll order it online. You didn't have to yell at me." she whispers as she makes her way out of the kitchen.

"Gia don't leave. I'm sorry I didn't mean to yell. If it means that much to you then we can buy it in the store," I cave.

"No, it's pretty obvious that you don't want to be seen with me or something," she says, turning to face me.

"Come on Gia, that's not the case and you know that. Of course I want to be seen with you, you more than anyone matter of fact," I sigh as I close the distance between us, making eye contact.

"Then what is it Elijah?"

"I just want the suit to fit right, that's all," I lie.

She lets out a small breath, drops her head and lightly grabs my hand.

"I get that you're not ready to fully open up yet and I can't get mad because I haven't opened up at all. I just wish that you'd let whatever's scaring you stop controlling your life. And it's fine, if it doesn't fit correctly I'll just tailor it," she sighs.

"I'm trying, I really am," I whisper, dropping my head.

"Hey hey, head up baby," she says as she uses her hand to tilt my head up.

Baby?

"I know you're trying, I can see it everyday. I'm so proud of you," she smiles.

"Thank you," I whisper while holding eye contact.

She reaches up on her tippy toes and places the most gentle kiss on my cheek and I can't help but smile.

I want another one.

"Goodnight Elijah."

I feel myself get a little sad as she lets go of my hand and makes her way to her room, I don't want to see her go.

"Hey Gia," I call out from behind her.

"Yea?"

"Sleepover?"
